Honey and garlic for flu season?

    I've heard so much about mixing honey and garlic but never had the nerve to try it.
    Now that I grow my own garlic I figured I'd give it a try.
    There are multiple different recipes online that include just putting whole cloves in the honey and eating the cloves or crushing the garlic and mixing it in the honey and taking a spoonful every so often.
    Does anyone here do it and what do you recommend?

    I only done local honey to help with allergies. I know people who eat raw garlic when they are sick. So I think it may work just find a recipe you'll enjoy.

    I reckon that both honey in your diet as well as plenty of garlic is good - but maybe not both together. More importantly I think in the winter months when the sun is less plentiful, a supplement of vitamin D and K like this would be most beneficial. The dose needs to be at this level for optimum benefit.

    Actually, you can buy honey and garlic sauce already made, and add it to any stir fry. Worth trying ?

    Honey, Whiskey and Onion is an old cough medicine here. Sugar and oil is enough to help though. Why it has to be stinky is probably just for dramatic effect though garlic is fairly antiseptic. Even so I would prefer the whiskey. Lemon would work too, and make a better drink.

    Honey lemon ginger nettles and garlic. My friend swore by this.

    chop the garlic and ginger up. Mix with some nettles and honey. Infuse with boiling water and drink several times a day.

    my wife chops a medium size onion up, puts it in a little bowl and uses either a heaped tablespoon of sugar or honey. She puts a saucer on it and leaves it overnight. The next morning you can consume the juice. I find the taste disgusting, but it’s medicine.

    Medicine without a disgusting taste is preferable in my book, and prevention is better than cure :nerdy:

    I haven't tried garlic and honey before but the garlic will come out in the pores making you smell of garlic.
    I don't get colds much but when i do it's a lemon drink made out of sliced lemons, pour boiling water over them and let it soak for a hour or more. Then still in the water sqaush the lemons in the water to release everything. Pour some in a glass warm it up then put some honey in also can put some brandy or whiskey. I don't normally drink those spirits but it tastes nice.

    @Tetters - You and I are on the same page with the D+K vitamins. I joined the Weston A. Price Foundation and follow their recommendations for the ADK trinity closely. I was able to cure my thyroid problem with just finding the right balance. I've been doing it for years, now, without anymore issues.

    @Clay_22 - I purchase local raw honey every year; no processing other than the extraction. I did have bad seasonal allergies, but the honey didn't do much for me. I guess it was because it was mostly grass instead of wildflowers. I started taking vitamin E instead. That works better than anything I've ever taken for allergies. I take it anyway for my skin and nails, so I take a little more during allergy season. No side effects, no drowsiness and NO ALLERGIES! I highly recommend it. I was 130 pounds and taking 2000 IUs twice a day during allergy season for 10 years. I can tell you that the average person can handle that much and not have to worry about overdosing. I only give that time limit because I've gone up a bit in weight, but I still take the same amount. It's been 20 years, now. I take about 2000 IUs the rest of the year. My better-half used to take Zyrtec year round and sometimes add Benadryl to it. My mom used to take Claritin D year round. Both have switched to vitamin E and say it works better than the meds. They are also telling their friends about it.

    I plan to use the honey if I start to fall ill, but that rarely happens, so I end up just adding some to my tea or toast when I want a little sweetness during Advent or Lent (I give up candy for penance). A couple of years back, I had a few too many jars so I ended up making mead to give away for Christmas presents. This year, I thought to give away the honey-garlic concoction as a couple of Christmas gifts for my more health-conscious family members but I want to try it for flavor first.

    For those who want to eat garlic but not stink, I've begun pickling garlic cloves. They are very snack-able that way with all of the health benefits and no stink!
