Well, I have had to wait whilst a couple of you showed your stunning specimens of this type of plant whilst mine stubbornly stayed wrapped tightly in the bud. Now it has broken free of it’s restriction and blossomed into a lovely Spring flower. I only have one, it is not special, but I am fond of it. What a nice gift it turned out to be.
Oh wow look at all the freckles on that face… isn’t the first flowers of spring something to celebrate. Cheers.
Those freckles are cute, aren’t they. I had a Clematis sort that looked very similar to this Helleborus.
Worth waiting for that helleborus plenaspottii - lovely Maybe the clematis was Cirrhosa ''freckles'' ?
That’s right. It bloomed twice a year for me. I was very fond of it . One year it froze to death. I have not neen able to find another one since.
Our hellebores are in flower now too. We have the same one as you Sjoerd as well as a chocolate one. Now we have snowdrops, crocus and hellebores and we planted some daylily bulbs today.
Too right, Cayu. There are some remarkable Helleborus plants, aren’t there? There are a couple of folks on here that have decent collections. Eileen, can you get a couple of pics of your Spring bloomers?
That really surprises me, usually everything seems to be available in Holland plantwise. It seems these days that the majority of garden centre stock comes from your country. This actually was most apparent over 20 years ago when I was busy propagating stuff for a local grower, and it had a detrimental effect on sales here as the varieties from there were so impressive.
It is odd as you say, but dja know what— the garden centre’s operate on a sort of fad mentality. That is to say that plants come and go in popularity, and what is no longer popular does not return on the shelves the following season. Tch. As they say these days— it is what it is.
Sjoerd. so true.. everything is the same , everywhere you go . Very few small nurseries are left. Many plants that are grown from seed catalogs have a vast choice of variety . ‘Most hellebore varieties today are sterile , very few can self seed anymore.
Sjeord I would post my hellebore pics if I could but I no longer have a camera. I can't find the post where I showed them before either. Sorry.
These are new to me and very beautiful. There is so much joy in watching a spring flower decide when they want to stick their toe into the water and agree that it is the right time. Is it very tall Sjoerd?
Oh those imaginary hellebores don’t ya luv it. My imaginary hellebores are a lot taller than most. No standing on our heads to get photos and lots of blooms from doubles to singles , colors dark purple to iridescent white. And not forgetting the stinky green hellebores that always let us know where they are growing attacking the olfactory senses are now in my imagination as sweet as the smell of fresh cut grass .They are strong insect and critter free the staple of the garden. Every year the flowers pop open Frecklefaces and all , bright and cheery , tall and proud, right on cue. They deliver.
