I had a rainbow eucalyptus tree-the bark was beautiful… it grew so fast and tall one year the heavy snow rolled it down across the driveway.

I do have the all around famed ‘silver dollar’ eucalyptus tree the round shaped leaves and flowers. I like to cut smallish branches off in fall and bring inside during winter they smell fab..
Beware they need a lot of space trim/train to a shrub to keep it within reach they will take over any space. They are a tough tree, no bugs or critters bother them. Luv, luv ,luv them…

 

@Clay_22 , that sounds like another scam... maybe the weather people do get kickbacks. Doctors get kickbacks from the drug companies. A friend was telling me all the perks they got from working at the doctors office once; and some years ago, a news item said that Michigan made it illegal for drug companies to give all those kickbacks and perks to doctors (fancy dinners, gifts, etc)

 

Today is above freezing, but the roads were a sheet of ice this morning, and the yard is icy and thick slippery mud and it is drippy, so no garden work today. I DID work on some of my sewing. I am making a blue jean coverlet for a friend's bed. They let their dogs all pile in the bed on top of them. I promised it several years ago, but have been very slow getting at it. I HOPE to get it finished and checked off my project list this week... I got another project finished yesterday. No use wasting a good rainy or cold day.

It is nearly dog-walk time.

 

The seeds that I just ordered were for the silver dollar type. I planned to grow as an annual or container plant and keep it pruned back.

That's interesting yours grew into a tree! I didn't know they would survive the winter.

I have a Tasmanian Alpine Eucalyptus.
they are supposed to survive colder than the others. It grew quickly, but the leaf scent isn't much, mostly kind of musky.

 

Today I pruned half of the miniature apple trees, and some of the espalier apples. I used cotton string to tie some branches in better places, to train the trees.

Finally managed to get out and empty one of the compost bins, got 2 more to do.

 

Today I harvested the last of the leeks. Guess what we will have for supper tonight.
Went to a lady’s garden to severely prune one of her fruit trees. She lives in our apt. building and caught me in the hall before I went to the garden.
When I got back she had left a bag with chocolate hanging on the door handle. Wow!

I saw the first snowbell in the lottie. Yippee.

 

First snowbell! That is VERY exciting Sjoerd. So very nice of you to prune your neighbours tree - and to have an unexpected chocolate treat. She knows how to say thank you to your sweet tooth. hahaha

My onions have began to sprout, so it is time to set up my grow lights in my oldest daughter's bedroom. I won't be starting many plants this year, so I will just set up what lights I need as I go. I started more leeks for my neighbour and my daughter.

 

That silver dollar eucalyptus was cut back to its skivies 3 years ago. That’s 3 years growth. They get started hard to loose thru any ice storms we had. Just cut back leave stump and it will grow back quickly.

0nions are good to not only add to great recipes but also to plant deco (small flower heads )onions in areas the voles, mice, gophers eat my hostas. Keeps them at bay…

Yes, they are in the same time period as onions. I will be planting them very soon. I had planned on doing it when I was off and realized all my pots in the basement are at work with plants in them. So I need to go get hydrogen peroxide to clean the pots in the garage. Then they can get planted.
