Oreti lightening never strikes the same place twice? As the saying goes. I cannot remember ever seeing a pic with lightening striking the nations landmark,
The Statue of Liberty…the tallest statue in America…

Got up early. Made a couple weeks' supply of dog food, froze all but 3 days' worth.

Then appointment in Portland and a fancy Beyond Burger with truffle fries. Not bad!

Good morning everyone , we have another day ofaS strong winds.......it always seems to happen when the trees begin to blossom, such a shame. :(
Not doing much this morning except for a walk around the garden to see if anything requires staking up. This afternoon we are visiting my brother in hospital.

    Have a super day. :)

It went well, thank you. Im not good at being around people and my interpersonal skills aren't the best. That self-awareness helps with some of the stresses. It's also helpful to remind myself that the same is true for others.

I kind of like Beyond Burgers. Not too often. As a vegetarian, sometimes I feel left out when eating out, which is rare. The Beyond Burger is a way to eat at the same places, with the bun and condiments etc. Olus those fries, a rare treat for me. They do a good enough job for me, simulating beef. Im not the best judge of that. The last time I had the real thing was about 1980. I used to order a cheeseburger, tell them put everything on it but the burger.

@Oreti , seconding Sjoerd's wishes for you and your brother.

Oké Daniel, I didn't know which way to think about that burger. It has a great name though, doesn’t it. It is fun to treat one’s self now and then.

Mate, good to hear the appointment went well.

Sorry hectic day so a bit late in dropping by.

Thank you @Sjoerd and @Daniel W . The visit went well as he wasn't so distressed but couldn't really make head nor tail on his conversations, his jumbled up mind leads to some weird jumbled up ' conversations ' now. We just smile and agree.:):like:

My two sisters and I are off the look at 2 Care Homes that specialise in Dementia care first thing tomorrow and then another one on Thursday.....so nervous as it's such a big decision to make!!

Lots of stress there. Peace and blessings.

My mom was in long term care for dementia. Im glad they were there to take of her. I had to take her there. It was traumatic and thankless, but the right thing. They took excellent care of her.

Today I made two batches of burritos to freeze for snacks and meals. One batch, spiced browned mushroom, with a touch of sesame oil, chili beans, roasted poblano peppers, lotsa garlic, fried rice, queso quesadilla cheese and rice, which i fried to make a bit crispy. And Chululu sauce.
The other batch, russet hash browns, scrambled eggs, Mexican cheese mix, and Chululu sauce.

It was a lot of work and very messy for a while. I especially liked those mushroom bean burritos.

I still haven't found a breakfast enchilada recipe that I liked. The last one was close but the chipotles in adobo sauce were too hot for me.

Then I went down a rabbit hole on Ancestry.com, added a lot of info and discovered some very distant characters for the family tree. I uploaded a unit photo that I inherited from my grandfather. This is him in about 1907. He was in the Philippine-American war. I won't express any opinions, just that was where he was at 17 years old. The conflict is described in wikipedia. He is in the middle, front. He passed through San Francisco while it was being cleaned up after the great earthquake and fire.

He had a lot of stories to tell, and some of them were true!

Have to get up early. Have happy dreams everyone!

Interesting story of your ancestors. How amazing it is to have pics and know about your grandfather. It seems you were in the army too, if I remember correctly. Most older pics of the19th and early 20th century show zero smiles. One explanation for the lack of smiles in old photos the long exposure times. During that time cameras needed to take a picture made it important for the subject to stay as still as possible. That way the pictures wouldn't look blurry. All of my ancestor pics all look sad-no smiles. I often wonder how much better they would look with smiles.
Sometimes I attach the video GoPro cams on the dogs and horses - how cameras/memories have changed.

Well then Oreti, what a big deal for you and your siblings. I hope , very sincerely, that you will find the right place for your brother…a place that you can all agree upon as being the right and best place.

I can imagine that there is some degree of urgency; but of course, taking one’s time to get it right will be worth it, won’t it. Good luck on your search.

Daniel— mate, you just keep coming up with interesting family things. Always so interesting. This latest old foto is really interesting to see. Do you have a connection to the Philippines other than your soldier relative?

    Thanks again everyone.

So far our hopes have been dashed as it seems our brother's needs are too great for the majority of care facilities so it seems. The two we visited today and the 3 we made phone enquiries to all said that unfortunately they weren't able to meet his needs.:smt022:sulk:
We're visiting another one tomorrow and one on Monday too in the meantime I'm searching online to see if I can find one.

I think it's as we feared..a combination of Alzheimer's and his severe disabilities is going to make it hard to find the appropriate care home.

We really need to make sure it's perfect for him , but we desperately need to get him out of hospital as he's finds it too bewildering and at times a scary place to be.

More Spring cleaning, one day at a time. Even the tool box / work bench is getting some attention.

Some additional " perfectly good" furniture went onto Craigslist to sell. We'll see what happens. If not that then Good Will. When that's gone there's more to go but not a lot now.

The "Family Room" (not used for that, but good for sewing big quilts, or reading) is next. It's too dark. The light fixture didn't take normal size bulbs. I had a second-hand ceiling fan / light fixture sitting in the garage, that takes 3 normal size bulbs, that needed either to go, or to be used. After a lot of cleaning up, washing, and polishing, I'm happy with it and installed it in the family Room. It makes a big difference and looks new.

I'm waiting for Summer to paint the fireplace hearth in that Family room. So windows can be open to air it out.

Have a good evening everyone and a great day tomorrow!
