Good Thursday morning all. Currently 8°C and raining. We are to get "significant rainfall" today, so I've got the day off work.
Some puttering to do around the house and then I'll head out and do my regular Thursday grocery shopping. I would like to get my seedlings moved out to the window greenhouse, but it looks like theres a few cold nights coming up. Mother Nature sure keeps things interesting!
Have a great day all :)

Good morning everyone....well things could be looking up as we visited a fabulous home yesterday ...which I'm certain will receive my vote and that of my older sister's too ...younger one still undecided. We're visiting another one on Monday. The one we saw yesterday is more expensive at over a couple of thousand pounds per week, but definitely worth it !! :fingerscrossed:

Off for lunch out before more hospital visiting this afternoon...on the plus side I think we're in for a lovely sunny and warm day.

    Have a great Friday everyone.

Good Friday morning all. Currently 10°C and raining. It rained all day yesterday, all night, and will continue a good part of the day. There is a lake on my lawn, complete with a muskrat swimming around in the ditch. I've never seen a muskrat here before, and I hope once it stops raining it continues on its way. Theres a stubborn Robin trying to make a nest beside our front door on the downspout, and I've removed the beginnings of a nest 4 times. Now there is a bucket stuffed in the opening so hopefully thats the end of that. There are rabbits everywhere and its time the dog got to work chasing them away! The joys of country living!
Another day off work due to the weather, so today I'm going to move my kale, cabbage and onions out to the greenhouse.
Have a great day all :)

Hi Netty! I sure wish I could get some of your rain! Where I am, there has been years of drought.
It has been an up and down Spring, winter temperatures don’t want to leave.
I am patiently waiting for warmer days so I can get some veggies and shrubs planted.

Good morning everyone, hope you're all well and have a lovely relaxing weekend planned.

I have nothing planned at all apart from a walk up to the post box. I am not going out anywhere as we've been in and out non stop all week. The weather is perfect for a whole weekend of........gardening!!!:smt026:smt041:smt026:smt041:sete_056:.

    Have fun!!:smt045

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 6°C and light rain with strong NW winds.
Another wet day, the ground is completely saturated. Theres standing water by the weeping tiles, so I don't think I'll be doing any laundry anytime soon.
I got the cabbage, kale and onions moved out to the greenhouse yesterday. They should be happier out there until planting time. That made a little bit of room inside under the lights so I planted my zinnias. It will be nice when its warm enough to move everything out to the greenhouse.
Just some 'puttering' around the house today, and then off to a work get together this evening.
Have a great day all :)

    Yay!

We decided to look into metal roofs for the house. The main reason is for wildfire hardening. Wildfires impact my area about every other year, now. I've had to evacuate three times. I've done most of what I can on my own property to remove the most flammable trees, shrubs, mulches. A contractor is coming to do an estimate, today.

Daniel, good luck on finding a match for metal roofing. There’s so many very nice different styles and colors. Some look just like shingles, tile , or slate and also some have a ruff coating . I need to clean the moss off the roof we have cement tile roof, concrete stucco siding and fire resistant studs. The barn and out buildings not so much.
It’s scary when people have to evacuate . I totally get it. Had to do that here too , not easy with the horses and dogs.

Now the insurance companies are using drones taking pics of homes and can cancel insurance if to much stuff is stacked around the house including plants and trees. In some states metal roofs and zero plants several feet away from the home as well as added rockery is a common practice to prevent damage from wild fires.

I would not have a chance with that rule for fire coverage. I depend on the trees and shrubs planted around my home to cool during the summers , not dependent on the air conditioner at all , even temps reaching 100F . But the power company now has mapped out areas of the state that is prone to wildfires and have cut our power several times in summers for preventative measures. We have 3500 gallon water holding tanks connected to the well in case it’s needed for firefighters , no fire hydrants available. When the power is cut off we have no water . The water tanks have access for the firefighters . We also have stocked the foam and 5” wide hoses for application.

Since climate change I dread the summers.

    Good morning everyone.

Gosh @Daniel W and @Pacnorwest , my heart goes out to you both it must be so scary to be caught in a wildfire.
We usually get the odd fire out in the New Forest area, its sadly usually the result of a carelessly thrown cigarette butt or an illegal camp fire. Thankfully it never reaches the nearby villages, but the damage to the area and the wildlife lost is awful .....even on our much smaller scale.
What you go through over your way must be truly horrific.:(

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 6°C and raining. Again. This is the forth straight day of rain.
Not sure what my plan for the day is yet. I wanted to do some garden cleanup, but clearly that isn't going to happen.
    Cleaning it is!
Have a great day all )

Netty, four days of rain, and I complained when we had only three! It will stop, things will dry out, and you will be back out in your garden.:dislike:
Husband has a cold (result of chilly mornings and warm afternoons) so I am trying to sit on him to get him to stay inside and take it easy. So far, no luck! I'm just messing around the house a bit--no big projects.
Hope you all can relax today without having to be sat upon!

Oreti thank you. And yes it is very scary to consider any day a wildfire could start in our area.

I really enjoyed reading the reference article on the conservation methods of the forests in Britain. The forest animals , and especially the history . Thank you for sharing . I am happy to hear that your country has not experienced the wildfires that seem to plague the US (and many other countries) in hot summers. Most due to drought, rivers are dry and reservoirs that are low caused by drought conditions. 90% of the wild fires in the US I have read are due to human's.

This past winter has been another extreme case of climate change. Too much rain has flooded many states and filled reservoirs and rivers that were at the lowest level in decades. Including the PNW. Hope this fire season will be a success with no out of control wildfires. :fingerscrossed:

marlingardner… funny line “No one sitting upon you” - or your hubby to keep him from over doing. I am thinking about ripping out the corral posts. Maybe on second thought I will reconsider. Having anyone sit upon me sounds claustrophobic ….hehe….

Forsythia are in full yellow flower, Azaleas in flower, Daffs and Hyacinth blooming tulips coming, trees and lilac budding. My favorite time of the year so exciting watching nature come to life.
