Today I was able to plant some of the seedlings that I have been nurturing.

The snow peas are bout 9 inches tall, with good roots. I planted those in the vegetable garden, with protection. They are much bigger than my previous attempts. We will see what happens. The smaller ones almost always get pulled up amd eaten.

A second batch of snow pea seedlings, as well as sweet pea seedlings, awaits the results of the first.

I planted the first eight pepper plants. Two each of Anaheims, Fresnos, Jalafuego, and hybrid Serrano. There is room for eight more, plus a few in the ornamental container garden. I'm installing a drip emitter for each plant as I go along, and I have already verified that part of the system works.

I emergency-watered because of heat and wilting.

I repaired a water hose that somebody :setc_033:ran over with the lawn mower recently. They dont work well with a big slice taken out of them. All good now.

The heat will cause the miniroses to dry out much too fast, in their small containers. I up-potted four of the yellow ones into a quite large container.

The red ones are quite a bit smaller and I revamped them later. I planted three into a group pot, not as large as the yellow ones got but still much larger than they had.

    IMG_7451.jpeg

I moved the young strawberry planters to full sun. I think they are ready for that.

    IMG_7422.jpeg

I decided to to under plant the container roses with rose moss. I like them better with an old leaf mulch. Instead, I stuck some here

    IMG_7428.jpeg

and here. This pelargonium must be twenty years old. It's been repotted, pruned, and rehabbed many times. I wasn't going to keep it, but I am after all.

    IMG_7444.jpeg

and elsewhere. Each six-pack gives me about twelve plants, which will be nice later this summer.

I planted basil here. The mini-daylily and dusty miller were from last year's container garden, but I combined them this time. I think that by the time the basil is ready to cut, the other plants can take over.

    IMG_7429.jpeg

Tomorrow, I want to finish planting the pepper plants, plant at least half of the slicing tomatoes, and get the irrigation working for the onions and garlic. And start squash and annual flower seeds, and epazote.

With the heat, garden work needs to be early morning or late evening.

This morning, I completed planting the chili peppers. Also some pots of cilantro.

    IMG_7456.jpeg

I planted two more pots of snow peas.

The bed that has onion plants, had tomatoes last year, and vice versa. I use emitters for individual plants, with tomatoes. But for onions, I use row emitters. So they had to be traded. I did that today for the onion bed and slicing tomato bed.

I verified that there is flow from all of the emitters, so far. That makes for an easier time for me. Next, plant the tomatoes and put down the cardboard or leaf mulches.

I did prep work to plant the first batch of tomatoes tonight.

I have not been here for a few days or so. Sorry. I helped with a fundraiser at church, and had so much other stuff to do.

We had loads of rain here, so did not get much done outdoors until Thursday. DS got a new weed eater to replace the one that had broken last year. I went at it out front, and around the dog houses out back. I still have a lot more trim work to do. Yesterday, I did get the majority of my yard mowed. I hope to work on it more tomorrow. I got the parts for my push mower, and my neighbor will fix it Monday, though they are calling for more rain then. They had urgent matters earlier. The grass and weeds go hog wild here.

I planted 9 tomato plants yesterday, and a rosemary plant and a thing of white wave petunias. I scattered the 6 petunias around. One tomato plant is an heirloom variety (the tags are with each plant so I don't forget) and determinate. The others don't say, so I am assuming they are indeterminate?

My broccoli seeds are sprouting. The peas are doing great. (We did have storms the other night with hail and high winds.) A couple of pea plants got broken, probably from the hail, so I put the pieces in water. I have no idea if they will root or not, but it cannot hurt to try.

Some of my zinnias and marigolds are up, and I think I saw a few cosmos seedlings. Some of my Walkers Low Catmint got broke when I was trimming, so I put them in water. Allegedly they will root, but have not gotten them to do so yet. I sure hope they do root!

No signs yet of my chives, bunching onions, or the seeds in the tub that got flooded two weeks ago. No signs of my lettuce and spinach and leeks either. Or the redbeets or new carrots. I have not seen the new milkweed seeds, thyme or yarrow sprouts yet. I have not seen any celery sprouts either.

The potatoes and other onions are doing nicely. I have some stray pumpkins and melons up which is good.

I want to plant sweet corn, watermelon and cukes this week. I have some puny sweet potatoes I saved from last fall to replant and will put them out. I did not have window space for indoor starts, so hopefully they will sprout soon and grow well. I will plant more lettuce, and maybe wait on the spinach.

    Q. Is it too late to plant more leeks this season?

I found 2 ripe strawberries yesterday and ate them.

I planted a few white wave petunias here and there.

    your gardens all look great!

some of my transplanted blackberries look like they did not make it, but the roots could be alive and send up new growth?

My kitten from last summer (3 gifted kittens from a neighbor) had 5 babies today. They are white with tiger patches.

And last Friday (3rd), my rooster attacked me again. It got infected and I had to go to the ER. Thankfully that has cleared up. Boogey played outdoors most of that day, outside of the coop. He survived, and son put him back with the girls...

Oh yeah, I want to get my sunflowers planted this week also...

    Sowed some more Basil.

@AAnightowl you are working hard! You will have a great crop this year.

@Logan those hanging baskets sound nice. I was thinking about doing a hanging basket but not sure what.

@Oreti lots of watering. Here too. I planned to be ahead of the season, installing the vegetable garden drip irrigation lines earlier this year. Well, the hot spell beat me to it. As of yesterday the lines are set up and working in three of the six raised beds.

Today's plan: Plant the remaining slicing and cherry tomato plants. Secure the irrigation lines in the onion bed, and add the cardboard mulches. Get started cleaning up the raised bed for sauce and salsa tomatoes.

All of the deck garden plants are off the deck now, to be out of the way for the roofers. I think I should power wash the deck before returning them to their locations. They worked ahead of schedule yesterday, so I had moved all of the plants early yesterday morning. The old roof is almost all gone now.

I might install some drip lines for some of the container garden too. That might mean using a quick-connect hose. Still thinking about it.

Thanks @Daniel W my hanging baskets are about 12in and i put 2 fuchsias at the front, on both sides i put 4 geraniums, 2 on each side and in-between i fill with the Erigeron as many as you can put in, i don't put anything else at the back. It doesn't look much at the moment until they all fill out.

Those sound really nice. I hope you will post photos.

All I did in my garden today, was plant some short rows of bush beans. It was nice to just do one thing.

Dame's rockets.jpg I did work outdoors today. I was pulling up Dame's rockets that got into awkward places and dumping them in a bed out back where I want more. I also dumped some into the bare spot by the power pole left by the ditch work last year. They are going to seed, so will plant new ones there later when the seed ripens and the plants compost down. I love them, but sometimes they come up willy-nilly so I move them around. They are wildflowers similar to phlox. Here are some from a previous year, they had taken over a section of yard. I moved them to other places after they went to seed, and got my yard back.

I also planted 2 rows of scarlet runner beans (1 on each side of the trellis for them to climb) and also 4 rows of corn mixed with cucumber seed. I thought since the Indians planted squash with their corn, I would try cucumbers with the corn. I ran out of beans, but may add some more beans later? I scattered some lettuce seed in a few other beds.

I moved a few more wild blackberry canes over to the grapevine arbor, and tried out my new garden auger. That is very handy. I also found a tiny new leaf on each of the two dead grapevines, so maybe there is hope for them? I mulched them all with a thick layer of wet straw from that wet bale I have hanging around, and soaked them good.

We might get some rain tonight or tomorrow?

Well....I've done some quick intense reading before getting ready for a city trip. I've missed commenting on everyone's lovely work and gardens,

I look forward to seeing it all in a few days. I've been working through my three changes of blue jeans hung outside for the dirt on the knees to dry out and flake off. Very busy times and very hot. I think the gardens are in - except for corn and squash. Things should get back to more seasonal soon. Funny to see 28 C and also see snow on the mountains and lower hills.
