Please— can anyone identify this plant. I was cleaning a flower plot and came across this. The stem is a bit longer than my forearm and it is hollow. The roundish seed pods are weighty enough to have caused the stem to collapse. I found no leaves at the base of the plant. So then, if you can discover, or already recognise this mystery plant, please let me know.
Probably Hyacinthoides, otherwise known as Scilla or Bluebell. Hyacinth is also a possibility. Most likely, it was moved there by gnomes as a prank. Their sense of mischief is world renowned.
no problem I have had a few of those moments myself… especially when overloaded and super buzzy. I agree it looks like hyacinth must be a bulb in that pot too. Maybe save the seeds . It will take a few years to bloom but it would be your very own flower to propagate with a new color. I have tried cross pollinating amaryllis. Not much luck so far but fun to try.
Thank you, one and all. I believe that you are right about it being a hyacinth. I have never seen a hyacinth flower stem that long— it is about three times the length of the normal flowering stem. I shall try and remember to mark that place and / or save some seeds. Ta for the description of their seeds’ appearance, Palu.
