Netty, Just going through this forum for the first time in ages. What a roller coaster. Glad you found your puppy with all the right signs. Rabbits beware!

Weather is varied. Rain has stopped so wisteria cleanup is in my future.

Well I am back after a few months of deteriorating internet that was finally replaced and fixed a couple days ago. We have a new receiver, a new dish and a new modem. Who would have thought that after 18 years it should be replaced? hmmmm.

I still don't have dry eyes @Netty from reading of your heartbreak and your joy. I hope that little beautiful puppy is helping your heart heal. After a fur baby loss that I also carried a burden on my heart for, my husband insisted on a puppy - and I found Angus. We waddled up to me out of a litter of 11? ( if I remember correctly). I was still grieving the loss of Murphy, and I remember telling my husband that I wasn't sure if I could love another like I loved Murph. Well.......it is amazing how the heart can grow when fueled with love and puppy love. We don't have to love them the same - each are special - but that love is so free and healing, the heart is happy to make a little room once it has healed.

I wish you a healing heart and lots of puppy love.

Still preparing the old house for sale. I told the realtor the house will be ready the final touching up in ten days. A lot more stuff going to Goodwill, some selling on line, and there will be a "free" table at the neighborhood yard sale next weekend.

I found a box with some old photos that made me pause. Also some confirmation certificates in old German, for ancestors in the 19th century. I save those boxes for later.

I sold the chest freezer. The pantry is more roomy now.

Daniel it’s a lot of soul searching going thru family pictures and keepsakes. You have managed to keep it so organized. Kudos for all your efforts .

I know what a job that is, Daniel. It is not the sort of thing that can be rushed. Good luck with that. I enjoy hearing about the “old papers” and so forth. My family misses those because they were lost in a lightening-caused fire years ago before I was born. Cherish those mementos, mate.

Oh @Daniel W , such an emotional journey to be taking that's for sure.

My sister and I had to close down our parents home of 50years + 4yrs ago just as Covid and all the lockdowns began. We had a real struggle to arrange anything. 5 months after our Dad's passing though we managed to have the house ready and on the market ,fortunately it sold straight away.
We all went round gathering keepsakes and all photo albums and historical records/ papers .Finally we arranged for a house clearance team to come in and for 3 days my sister and I sat in a quiet corner of each of the rooms as they were sensitively and respectfully emptied of all our parents furnishings that represented their long life together. The team were so kind to us both and fully appreciated all the difficulties we had endured ....funeral arranging during the height of Covid was most distressing and then of course all the legal things that all had to be carried out online or over the phone as no 1 to 1 contact was allowed.

I feel your pain and emotional lows as I still so strongly feel my own.
Go steady and gently on yourself...you're going through much more that you imagine right now.....and it will probably hit you harder at a later point.

On a lighter note..just wanted to add that I found a diary belonging to my Dad and obviously I kept it. It was only last month ...the anniversary month of losing both him ( 94yrs) and ( years early) Mum ( sadly only 75yrs) that I felt ready to read it ..

Oh my what a love story it told !!! Dad was 21 and Mum was 16. Dad was in the RAF and had just started his pilot training. I was amazed to discover they wrote to each other ever single day!! That would not be possible now with our very slow postal services!!
Dad proposed to Mum in the July and that day's write up in his diary was so beautiful...I could literally feel his excitement and happiness oozing from the page.
I could also sense his pure joy on his train journeys home every few weeks to see her too.
As bonus I also discovered all the movies they went to see on their dates....and they saw loads!! I've now begun to search some of them out and have already watched some myself now....most in black and white so far!!

Keep searching for treasures amongst your parents belongings.....some are so very priceless.

Today…….for Nederland it is the beginning of the European Voetbal (Soccer) Championship. The fans have gone to Germany for the games. Dutch people are always highly visible with their orange colours. They like having a good time and hopefully their happy enthusiasm will rub off.

They arrive in Hamburg, then the fans gather at an appointed place and then walk in a mass to the stadium. Look at this video to get an idea of the atmosphere of the fans:

Sjoerd, Sorry you lost your old papers and such. It's a major los, a tragedy. They certainly give me a sense of connectedness. I learned about my Dad's grandparents and great grandparents who immigrated from Europe, and the long military history through various lineages of my moms - Revolutionary war, War of 1812, Civil War - several, and some who were POWs, some whose siblings were killed, one deserter. It makes history real, regardless of what one thinks about things like those wars. My own era was the Vietnam war, although Saigon was (re)taken by the Vietcong before my orders could be activated (thankfully) and I was in a more cold war situation I won't go into here (medic).

I also found a letter from a friend, who had a big impact on my life but we lost touch when I was in the Army. The letter was in a box containing old cards and letters. I always wanted to contact him. I was going to send a card to the return address on the letter. then I thought to see if there was any better info on ancestry.com. It turned out, he died 20 years ago! I felt (feel) sad about that, even though we were not in touch for so long.

Today I made a new batch of burritos. This time, for the diabetic in my family, the tortillas are whole wheat, the rice is brown. They also contained smash-roasted mushrooms (I got a cast iron smasher for those), roasted Poblano peppers, roasted onions, and Oaxaca cheese. With some Cholulu sauce. Not bad at all.

Also, this is what happened to the cherry harvest.

Long day. I packed the slow cooker with chicken quarters and hearts, to make Rufus a batch of meals tomorrow. Then maybe make a strawberry rhubarb pie. No promises LOL but I bought those strawberries at a roadside stand, and they need to be either eaten, frozen, or cooked. Or all of the above.

    ¡Buenas noches everyone!

That was an interesting story about papers and lost contact with a friend. Such a shame.
The cherries look good in their new home. They look so tasty.

Good Wednesday afternoon all. Currently 30°C and sunny with humidity feeling like 47°C. This week has been horribly hot and humid, and I think we still have a couple of days to go before we get relief. I am not enjoying this heat wave ... I am far too busy to have to fight with the heat!
Picked up our puppy on Saturday, and we've all been taking turns with the puppy chores. By day 2 we were all ready for bed at 6:30pm haha Puppy - 1, Humans - 0
Just a couple of days until the weekend, and it just cant get here soon enough!
