With the start of the heat wave, I moved most of the South & West exposure deck plants to the mostly East side patio. There is some South exposure but not as much.

The container David Austin roses are pretty rewarding so far. We are only four months out from planting them.

    The yellow mini rose.

    IMG_8351.jpeg

Container annuals are still very small so no risk of drying out too fast. They remain in full sun.

Most are getting ready to bloom now.

Here they are closer to the outdoor faucet. Watering will be easier and faster.

Not much except watering morning and evening during this excessive heat. Hit 98 yesterday so the veggies got a nice long watering last evening.

Hard to keep up with that heat! I bet they'll grow fast with your watering.

Made it to Washington State late (for us) last night. My son has a whole mini farm on his balcony. Two huge pots for the raspberries, a bed on legs which has; broccoli, tomatoes, and a strawberry plant. And smaller pots with peppers, artichoke, beans which came from his daughter's school science project, and one other thing, I don't remember. They all seem to be very happy. I guess he gets afternoon sun. We're here for a week, then back home to see how my garden faired. I have a neighbor watering and checking on the cats while we're gone. It's nice being in the cooler weather!

@Willowisp0801 welcome to the PNW. Enjoy your visit lots to see and do.

Today’s to do list was early mowing …happy to report no new ground invasions.
But… those two baby deer got their behinds chased out of the neighbors field again. This time I had my pellet gun with me… ‘NO PELLETS’ , just the noise with co2 cartridges scares them off. Will be out again at dusk …mow…

The plastic pressure regulator on the irrigation system was leaking quite a lot. Today I replaced it with a brass one. No more leaking.

    IMG_8365.jpeg

I had some trouble with the threads. Fortunately I had some teflon thread tape, which made all the difference.

It's kind of a Rube Goldberg system, with sediment filter, pressure regulator, timer, and backflow preventer. I also washed the rust out of the filter. Running well for now.

Despite the black flea beetle attack, the dwarf tomato plants look pretty good.

    IMG_8359.jpeg

So do the determinate sauce & salsa tomatoes.

I also cleaned up a few bearded iris plants and moved them to their new location. It was a hot day, but I don't think that will hurt them.

I don’t load the pellet gun with pellets just the co2 cartridge. It’s the cartridge that makes a huge noise. I couldn’t hit the barn door 10 feet away if it tried. Besides these deer are fast and moving thru the fields. I would never want to
Injure them, there are laws against hurting or shooting wildlife in my area by the state fish and wildlife dept.

Did you know if I lived in the state of Washington it is illegal to trap gophers. I am fortunate to live in Oregon because trapping gophers is the only way to stop the constant tunneling / holes . However I have also been lucky enough to dissuade them by constant mowing…too. So far caught 3 gophers and not seen more in weeks.

Laws in place for shooting or hurting wildlife in our area by the state wildlife dept.

Daniel Nice job and boy do I get it with your description of the ‘Rube Goldberg ‘ distinction. It makes sense. the tape, washers, leaks , hoses attachments is a chore but well worth the efforts. Saves a lot of time. Looks professional…:smt023 I bet you glad that’s done.
Tom Tom’s and peppers look great .

Have a similar system but miles of hoses and soaker hoses and more “y” connections on hoses to connect to more hoses . A total Rube Goldberg is a good description. Computer program with timer/zone control, counts gallons called ‘b-hive’, on/off control for hand watering and it’s a buzzin.

Thank you Pacnorwest, your video of corningware looks like pyrex cookware that i use but i haven't tried it from the freezer onto heat or in the oven.
