Tonight is BBQ Chicken in a homemade sauce. Then some mashed potato squash, green beans and garden carrots. Angus hasn't left the kitchen floor, except to lift his hopeful nose every once in a while.

Tonight I will have a Boursin omelet. Or to be posh, a Boursin omelette. LOL.

That sounds delicious Daniel! I had left over Boursin from the holidays and we are having Boursin stuffed mushrooms with our roast beef tonight. What all did you put in it?

Roast beef, morel gravy, boursin stuffed mushrooms, garden peas and carrots, garlic smashed potatoes for hubby, and whipped mashed potato squash for myself. A bit of green salad on the side.

I'm excited to try this Daniel. :) I've shared it with my daughter as well.

Thank you Sjoerd. Best part is a roast beef and horseradish sandwich for lunch today, and leftovers for dinner tonight.

Fried parsnip chips with spek beans and bitterballen.
Bitterballen are small coated balls made of a ragout coated in a meal. Often hy are cooked in oil, but we heated them up in the air fryer. Usually you eat these at little get-togethers with drinks and so forth.

So, this brings me to he “why”. Why eat a party snack that one dips into mustard before eating with the evening meal? It brings me right back to Commandment Nr.5 on the joke thread, doesn’t it. You kow the one about making notes so you do not forget things.

Think back to New Years’Eve— we hosted the do with eats, poker and fireworks viewing. We had planned out a chain of goodies to be offered at certain timed during the evening… traditional things. Can you see where I am going with this?

About three days later when going into the freezer to get out veg and meat for the evening meal, we came across ….the bitterballen. It was one of those WTF moments.

How on earth could we have forgotten them?! We had not forgotten all those other things that we served, the salties, the hardy medallions, the cheesy balls, sticks and au naturel blocks… not to forget the appelflappen an oliebollen. The round oliebollen should have rung a bell in the empty halls of my cranium…from the shape alone.

It was a big disappointment, for we had sussed out what the best bitterballen had been tested to be by the consumers’ organization here. Mora Bitterballen…presented by Cora on the telly adverts. Cora van Mora with her balls.

Oh if we had only written them down.
