What have you done today in the Garden?

I've a "garden cart," they are so useful.
I cut off one side off the handles so I could use it with or without the big plastic container
But it's rarely used now, the last time was when I closed our koi pool, to transport the fish to their new home, two doors away.





I've also a sack truck. I needed when bringing in the fountain from the drive from the pallet where the delivery guy left it.

 

Riley do you miss your pond? It was really outstanding and so many beautiful fish as I recall.
Your cart looks very handy for moving around heavy water, rocks etc.

 

Well, I had the fish for well over thirty years. They needed a lot of attention. But I can still go to see them any time I want, they're only a few yards away. But to be honest I rarely do. I just "moved on."

 

I agree fish do require attention and water balance, muck, temps etc. once the water is balanced it’s easy until the next winter arrives.
30 years is a long time to have a pond and I bet your neighbors are happy to rehome the beautiful koi .

 

It got down to 26F last night. So far the lavender starts look OK. I was going to bring them in if it dropped below freezing, but I forgot to check.

Other than that, I didn't do anything in the garden.

It was 7F when I got up this morning. It might make 21 today? And it is to be 5F tonight... Not much outdoors today. It is all the way up to 16 at the moment, and it is almost noon. It is sunny and clear and very cold today. Wool socks are good in this weather but I am chilled anyway.

DS got the drains opened yesterday. He made a couple of temporary fixes until he can do them proper when he is home again next month. He worked very hard on them this past week. At least the loo and the washing machine and sinks can be used without it coming back up in the tub or wherever.

I am trying to figure out why my printer won't print again and I need to figure out some tech stuff with my word programs for some church documents. They also need printed. My laptop and the printer are not on speaking terms, neither is my old desktop and the printer. The software I need to use would be perfect, but it is Works 2002 and on my old desktop and it won't print. My printer is installed on both computers. The printer is physically plugged into the desktop; my laptop is supposed to print via wifi. Works 2002 is not compatible with Windows 10 (or 11 I am sure.) The word programs I have on the laptop do not do the type of document I need. (Open Office; Libre Office; and TextMaker; Microsoft whatever is too pricey)... So I am trying to figure it all out. Libre does open most of my Works documents. It even opens the newsletter, but totally wrecks them.)

update: the printer finally printed from the laptop... IF I could get it to ALSO print from the desktop, it would solve a lot of problems.



I may do a sewing project also today.

 

Managed a walk around the garden ( certain areas only that were easily accessible). Couldn't get close to most of the bigger borders but noted all the Hellebores. My Nursery area is totally out of bounds ,it's early days yet to attempt walking around there. Felt good though.

 

Oh Oreti— how good that you can get around for a little walk-about. I can just imagine your elation. Oh…this is very good news.

 

When the sun is out and 36F , geez I can still work up a sweat trimming trees and clearing out underbrush. It’s lookin pretty nice and also very nice not to have to duck under tree limbs when mowing the pastures. Or worry about getting poked in the eye, or loosing my hat grabbed by a tree limb.

No new critters spotted out near the pastures . I did have to put out stuff in the barn and sheds the mice are running in for shelter it’s down in the 20’s at night. I found a tiny mouse house on my saddle seat I just cleaned . It’s always something. Need to start with the moss out on the driveway. The moss is taking over everything that doesn’t move. Even on those concrete fixtures. Well tomorrow’s another day.

 

Woke up to 4 °F -15°C that about sums it up LOL

 

We still have severe cold. It was about 4F this morning and got into the mid teens. All I did was pet chores, even though it was sunny and lovely. Supposedly it will warm into the 30s to 50s later in the week. I can get out then and work.

I did finish my sewing project which was a new cushion for a friend. Her dogs ate her previous cushion.

 

@Oreti pleased that you're getting around a bit.

Hubby has been cutting off the old hellebore leaves that's in the back garden and cut down the old raspberry canes.

My Helleborus plant looks like a sad starfish. I will get to my dead leaves when it stops freezing.
Are your Helleborus plants upright or splayed-out?

 

I never got near my garden. However, I did find some videos on you tube about how to take the dryer apart and clean out all that lint build up, and I actually did it. It was very full of lint in the back, and a fire waiting to happen. I am thankful that I did it. It took most of the day for me. My laundry room is small, so it was a tight squeeze, but I managed. The various videos are helpful, thought it was not so easy for me as for the men in the videos. I had a huge amount of lint/pet fur to clean out of the dryer. My dryer has a top lint filter, so it is different than the other style.

It got into the 30s today, so maybe I can work in my garden tomorrow?
