This lacy plant features soft green leaves as did of the leaves of it's ancestors from the carboniferous period 300 to 350 million years ago. A period before flowers and reproduction was accomplished by spores.

This plant is neither a fern nor a moss, but rather something in between. It also has leaves covering it's stem which are used to gather more light for photosynthesis. This is a common characteristic distinguishes the Selaginella genus.
