Hello Tooty, Ya you were correct it is indeed refered to as mother in laws tongue, they have a couple of names but the one I think is most common is SnakePlant. Best Plants!

I have the plant on the right of the pic. I do not know the plant name other than we call it the Mother In-Laws tongue. My plant is about 4ft tall. I have put it outside during the summer for the past several years. Every year it has bloomed for me. The blossoms are really strange looking. But smell very sweet.
