about Rhododendron prunifolium on Jul 10 2010

This native azalea is prized for its late summer blooms. Not fragrant, but the vivid orange - red blooms are visible from a distance. Perfect for a woodland trail, but this plant does need regular water to become established. Prefers a cool shady spot where it will grow very large over time.
