This plant can make a great groundcover, about 12" high. I spreads slowly, is never invasive, and the foliage is attractive. Check out the photo of this plant taken before it set bud.

In zone 11, i grew this plant easily from seed. Then i realized i didn't have enough space for it so i gave it to a neighbor to grow on his rancho (also zone 11). He reports great success growing this plant.

Plant where you want to see it spread or be prepared to pull them up by the handfull. Even if you think you have them all......they will show up again the next Spring. But, thankfully, they are easy to pull up and move to another spot or share with others.

This is the first year I've grown this wildflower in my zone 11 butterfly garden. I didn't have to cut it back or trim it because the slugs did it for me. It started to bloom before reaching full height. A neighbor found the plant growing wild near Colima and brought a cutting which failed to root. I found seeds for this Conoclinium online and may be a different species than the ones growing wild here. While my neighbor was holding the Mistflower he had found, a Monarch Queen butterfly flew into the patio area and started to nectar on it. There were many other nectar plants blooming in the garden at the time, but the Queen made a beeline for the Mistflower. I am hoping this will be a popular nectar plant in the garden. I also have some just getting started in a container on the patio where the slugs would not dare to go.

This plant is native to Mexico and Central America. In zone 11, I had to move it several times to find the right sun exposure. It wilted in full sun (meaning 10 hrs)and struggled. In the end, I moved it to a tree sized container and gave it some filtered sun and light shade and it is thriving with very little care. I have not noticed any pest problems. I have yet to discover if it will bloom year around. I moderately enrich the soil occasionally.
