They are growing in the backyard of my neighbors. I think they are pretty but have heard that they are not good for the heart.

Yes those are foxgloves Tina. :-D A drug called digitalis is made from them that helps those suffering from heart problems. They are very pretty aren't they? I have some growing in the wildflower area of my garden. :stew2:

Yes, Eileen. They are very pretty. But I am scared to grow them as I have a 7 year old at home. I will make sure he doesn't wander off to the neighbors yard :)

I had one for one summer, then it never came back  I was told to use gloves when you work with it because of the digitalis issue. I'd love to have another because I think they are beautiful but I don't have much for shady areas. :'(

Digitalis is a biennial. So you need to plant seed 2 yrs in a row if you want flowers every yr. And you need to let them go to seed. Don't deadhead.

My 2 nieces are 6 & 8. They love flowers. I was checking out their new house to see what was growing (not much lol) and I saw several vines of Nightshade. I did tell their dad to remove them. But the poor kids got a 15 min lecture from me on why they can't touch it. At my house, they know not to touch anything other tham lemon balm and peppermint until I say its ok. I have several plants that are poisonous.
