So I was out this morning watering and feeding my lovely little container garden and I stumbled upon this... Now, I got that foxglove this past may, it was already fairly tall with decent blooms on it. OH MY GOODNESS! Not only did it self-seed, but I think I stand a REALLY good chance of seeing more blooms before winter!!!!!!!!!!! I am so so so so so excited!!!! Why so excited? Everything I have read on foxgloves said it takes 2 years from seed to bloom. How's 2 months grab ya?!!!!!!!!!
Excellent AJ!!! Mine did take two years from seed to flowering so neither wonder you're excited. Do post further piccies when yours are in full bloom as I think they'll be absolutely gorgeous.
That does it! I'm going to have to have a foxglove!!! Oh Honey.... (that's me hinting to Bret ) Deanna :-D
Oooo, how great! It took me 2 years from seed too. I had planted seed every year and last year I had some fabulous blooms. I guess the seeds from the year before didn't grow so I had to buy a few plants for next years blooms. It doesn't look like I'll get any Foxglove blooms this year
When I got that plant, It was about 3' tall from bottom to tip and there were no leaves around the stem... there were some, kind of, but they were yellowed and wilted and it looked pretty sad, actually. Then out of nowhere there was this bushy looking growth on the stem shortly after the high winds blew all the blooms off of the stalk. Now, this bushy growth has completely taken over the stump of a stem I left when I cut off the stalk to collect the seeds from the pods and it fills almost the entire pot! I'll keep a daily watch on it and if I get full blooms, even without the height.. you all will DEFINITELY get to know about it!
Oh Droopy not cream and pink. PURPLE! This is my favorite color!! And... it had another surprise in store for me too... A SECOND STALK! .... Something else kind of exciting.. My hybrid petunias have seed pods on them! From what I've read, the hybrid petunias don't drop seed because they are sterile. At any rate, I spent all morning combing through all of my petunias collecting seeds from the pods that were ready. There are tons more pods so I'll have to check everyday to see if more are ready to be harvested. Maybe I can grow more petunias next year!
