I have done this with great success up north and was thinking of doing it again now in florida. I basically train the vine to grow up a 7-10 ft tall stake so the cukes ripen in the air instead of on the ground. Anyone else do this or have any other cool ways to grow them.
I always make my cukes grow up a vine or trellis. This year we have a nice trellis that my husband built. I don't have a recent pic but the cukes are planted in the tires and they are about 8 inches up the metal fence. They really are loving this. Cukes will be able to fall though the fence and hang through.
I grow cucumbers on a trellis made from old swing set poles and chicken wire. The 4/06 picture was taken with a really cheap camera we had then, sorry for the fuzziness. The swingset poles we got from an old set my oldest daughter was throwing away, they are cemented in the ground, the chicken wire is attached to the poles with zip ties. I find zip ties one of the more useful gardening items to always have on hand.
I've used hog panels, metal headboards from a thrown away bed. Sorry no pic for you. I have one, just don't know where it is at the moment.
