Any tips to growing grapes? I have been trying to grow Thompson Grapes and Concord grapes for about 2 yrs now. The first year they did really well and I actually had grapes coming till a late freeze killed them but since I haven't really had any luck with them. Tina
Growing Grapes Hi Tina, The fact that you had grapes the first year tells me that you planted them in a site that receives full sun and adequate soil nutrition. I have feeling the vines did not produce the second year due to lack of pruning. Grape vines need to be pruned when they are dormant. The fruit is produced on one year old wood which is the stems that formed during the previous season. The one year old stems will have smooth bark while the older stems have more of a shaggy bark appearance. Here is a Web site that provides step by step instructions of how to prune grapevines as well as very clear pictures of the process. http://my-grape-vine.blogspot.com/2007/ ... rapes.html
