I received some White Canna seeds from Budagardener, planted them early last week and four of them are already peeking their little leafies above the surface. I feel like a new 'mommy':-D There are two at the top of the picture and one lower left. I PM'd Budagardener last evening when the first one show it's pretty little self to me and this morning I found two more plus a fourth that has a little white showing but hasn't decided if it is safe to come up yet. He said it's 90 days from germination to bloom, that will take us into mid-October and we usually still have temps in the 80-90 degree range at Halloween so they have plenty of time to bloom.
Oh I love it when seedlings first show themselves through the soil. It certainly does bring out the maternal instinct doesn't it? I hope they all grow strong and healthy for you Toni.
That sure was quick! They say things 'grow bigger in Texas, and they must also grow quicker'. Those will be pretty babies. Then I may have to PM you!!!
#5 poked it's leafies top side this afternoon. Gaylyn, if we don't get an early cold front and they get to bloom properly I'll let you know when the seeds are ready.
Fantastic. I love seeing new seedlings emerge and I always greet them all individually, well, unless I am growing mustard cress as then there are just tooooo many! I will look forward to their progress.
How exciting. I've not seen white Cannas either. Must keep track of these babies! Good luck. Gardengater
Netty and Gardengater, check out Budagardeners white canna and the providers of the seedlings I am watching. white canna
Great job Toni, how about some germination pointers. I have tried and never been able to get them to germinate.
This is REAL excitement. I'l justy bet that you are beside yourself, eh? I love to see little seedlings come through and go on through into adulthood. Please keep us updated with piccies, won't you?
I just did what Budagardener told me. Nick the seeds, soak for 24 hours, cover lightly with soil not too deep, water and keep in a warm place but not in direct sunlight. He said they can be sown in the ground where you want them to grow in the spring, but I wanted to start them now since we have plenty of summer weather yet to come.
I'm glad they are doing so well for you Toni.I'm another one who didn't know they came in white. Cannas are one of my favorite plants.
oh my, the white cannas are pretty . i have orange and yellow . sure hopeing ya get some blooms before fall .will be waiting fer you to post pic's of that .
