These flowers started growing in a pot and I only see them open early mornings. They are closed all day. What are they? Thanks 4
"Venice Mallow" Hibiscus trionum. Another common name is "Flower of an hour" http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/711/
Your hibiscus is a little beauty - what a pity the flowers don't stay open for long during the day though.
Thank you! It's is a Venice Mallow Thank you to all that responded. It defintetly is a Venice Mallow. How it got in the pot is a mystery, but maybe in the soil I purchased in the spring. Too bad the flowers only stay open an hour. Linda :-D
these are definitely weeds i also liked them. once i went working in the field with my parents and i saw them everywhere - at that time they were little plants - and i liked their leaves, flowers (some were open) and even the seed pods when still green with stripes. so i gathers quite a few plants and re-planted in the flower garden we have (even though my parents told me not to, since they knew their growing & seeding habit) and i soon had really tall (about 1 m) plants... and with lots of ripe pods. I HAD TO pull them out... they are cute when still small like in your picture... but they tend to really grow... and the seeds!!! still... i collected some seeds for future use HEHEHE! CALIN
