It's just a nice way to say that the flower garden is "over-the-hill". :)
It really has past it's best but there are still some nice flowers to photograph and enjoy whilst there.
An overview (showing it's good side).

Your garden always inspires...jealousy and envy for sure but also dreams of having a garden very similar someday.

Your garden may be on the 'downside' according to the growing season but it certainly doesn't look like it.
I could post some real horror pictures if you want to see a garden on the downside

Still so serene, Sjoerd. I know you are enjoying every day you have left in your flowers. I'm happy to be able to see it too.

your flowers look so good yet. our weather here is already turning to the cold side and its really too early, so I don't have much left for flowers here. I'll be getting ready to divide mine up and put them elsewhere in the yard. Thanks for showing us your piece of paradise-looking good yet.

It may be past its best as far as you are concerned Sjoerd but I think it still looks beautiful. I love that dark hollyhock and those sunflowers. :-D

Gorgeous! I'm with Biita here, but I really don't think there is a downside. You're just being modest. You've been so clever in your planting, everything looks so fresh.

I'm with Eileen, the hollyhocks (which look similar to mine) and sunflower are my favorites but they all still look really great. Such nice color. Thanks for sharing. :)

Love the hollyhocks. I've tried unsuccessfully to grow them in my yard, although others nearby have good luck with them. They're one of my favorite old-fashioned flowers. Feels like fall here, and with the first Green Bay Packer football game last night, it sounds like fall, too. I'm not ready yet!!!

Well thanks guys. You say the nicest things. It sure perks me up, cos I always feel a bit 'down' when I realize that the zenith has passed.
It is a nice and calm and cool place to be during the hot augustus days. I especially like staying until dark--it's my favourite time of day. The air is cool, clean and smeels of plants and their fragrant flowers.
It's just perfect to silently sit finally, after working all day and sip tea whilst drinking-in the sounds and smells of the garden. It´s different than the early morning.
Yeah, EJ those Rudbekias are a lovely flower. I moved them this year, otherwise they would have grown to well over my head. The petals always remind me of soft butter.
I am sorry to hear that you northern folk are already experiencing fall weather there. I find it way too early too, for the season change.
