I haven't been able to spend much time working in the flower garden lately, what with all the harvesting and processing that's been going on here. I took a piccie now and then when I had the chance and was pleased with the ones still hanging-on. I love the veg, but the flowers are still my favourite. To begin with, an overview of a portion of the flower garden. Black-eyed Susans mixed with black and white Scabiosas. A macro of the "Black" Scabiosa. I sowed a pack of the black and whites called, "Ebony and Ivory". They have been a bit overwhelmed by the surrounding plants, but they are holding their own. Next time I shall plant three packs cos I do not find that there are enough. Verbena bonariensis. This is their first year in this place abd I am hoping that they will survive and thicken. This is one of those flowers that is more beautiful the closer you look at it. I planted some red and yellow sunflowers together and hope that the seeds will be interesting. The dark red one is the Helianthus annuus Prado Red Another Prado Red plant which is backlit with late afternoon sun. The yellow one (Helianthus annuus Double Shine F1. Hybrid) and a macro of the same.
I don't think there is a time, other than the dead of winter, when there isn't something beautiful blooming in your flower garden. Oh my, there comes that 'green monster' again
You're showing a good display of colour as always. Those sunflowers are really beautiful, and those scabiosa too. Your garden is still looking very good.
Thanks everyone. Your kind words help soften the inevitable. Hee hee hee Toni--- you are sweet. A guy can feel really proud when the likes of Dropopy has a nice word to say. Thanks to you as well. This is the first year that I have grown these particular red ones. They were planted out right along with the "furry" yellow ones in the same clump--but the red ones far surpassed the yellows in development and blooming...as well as the fact that the red ones bloomed about three weeks earlier than the yellows. I wasn't happy about that, but it lets me know how to time them the next occasion that I try this planting scheme.
Everything still looks lovely Sjoerd. I find it odd to see a Lupin in bloom in August, and is that Mirabilis in the background? What an eye catching color! I love your garden Sjoerd!
Thanks so much, Netty. Yes thew pinky-red flower in the backgrounf from the lupin is indeed a Mirabilis. I am well pleased at the effect of the colour combination of the Lupin and Mirabilis. It is sort of like the two-toned colours that some Fuchias have...at least that was my plan.
I'm with Toni...looks like your flowers go on forever. It must be nice!! They are beautiful ... as always.
Very beautiful, I wish my beds looked that pretty. I had blue scabiosa at my last home and I didn't plant any here because it over took the bed...I had sandy soil then and they loved it..it sure did attract a lot of bees I remember but I am not having trouble attracting them here either. I do have a couple sunflowers that are growing from the bird seed and the birds are already picking at them. I will have to look for that information on a new coreopsis that the flower is 3 inches wide...I want to say it is in spring hills catalogue. I can't get it now because I would wake my husband. I will give you the name and information at another date..I have to take my Mom for a test at the hospital today and I am not sure when I will be back. I love the first picture the most...lupines here didn't reflower because some aphids kept eating them and nothing I tried helped. I am trying coreopsis here but the bigger ones are just not growing for me here. I have 5 or 6 plants of the yellow but they don't grow like they did in sandy soil.
