Well...(skiffing my hand palms together back and forth), it's quite cold here today, gray and rainy. Burrrrr...Like Droopy said, seeing those long wooly sweater sleaves of Biita sort of brings home the fact that fall is on it's way. I think that I had better put my fleece on, wait one. --ok then, that's better. I have the windows open and the wind is drafting through the house like a wind tunnel. Well, let's see...we went out to the lottie yesterday to make the rounds and ask what folks were present for extra stuff for the Food Bank, to check on our lotties and to harvest and water the tomatos--they just keep on coming. We began pulling the corn stalks out of the ground, got two rows done and it began to rain again. Ther ground there is so soft that with rain it is hopeless to stand and work on...so we gave it up and decided to water and pick toms. Another huge, slate-coloured cloud was coming up on us again, so I suggested that we pack it all in, make our rounds and then head for home. There weren't many folks at the complex but those that were there, gave us some veg for the Food Bank.After biking up and down all tyhe paths we headed for the front gate and was stopped by a lady that asked if we would like some potatos. I said yes, but that my partner would have to take them, as I had to get home and make myself ready for work. Between her and the front gate, the heavens iopened-up and let the water fall. I just biked on home and got totally soaked to the skin. My bride and the 'tater lady hid in the garden house...while the dug potatoes got a good soaking. I took a few pics and now I would like to share them with you. First a few flowers--here one of the new Clematises A double varient of the first. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I love that fuzzy sunflower! I think I will have to plant that kind next year! Those tomatoes look fabulous!
Dang Sjoerd, That still looks pretty amazing there. Cold or not. I don't dare open the house up, we have the heat on already. We been looking at the fireplace debating if we should fire that up too. I have my tomatoes in the kitchen and they have a ton of flowers, i keep tapping and shaking,,,lol. I finally got one chili pepper going, and i keep tapping and shaking those too. Lots of flowers. One chili. lol. So i have to keep it warm in here. I tell ya, that is one lucky foodbank. Wonderful harvest and it all goes to those who really need it. Good going!
The food bank people must be so delighted with all the fruit and veggies they are getting from you all. I think it's such a wonderful thing to do. Love the double clematis and the red and fuzzy sunflowers too. :-D I hope that when I plant my toms next year in the greenhouse that they'll produce as many fruits as yours have Sjoerd.
The food bank take is great, congratulations, sjoerd. I've just picked some colorful peppers, and have 6 more toms on the vine. Now have peas and Bok Choy coming. Keep fingers crossed. Hope you enjoy your cooling weather. Gardengater
Lovely colours, and those tempting veggies to top it off too! I especially like your clematis. It's got such a fragile look, but I guess it's a tough one. I really need to buy new sunflower seeds come spring. Can't imagine what happened to the ones I bought. Red ones and fuzzy ones, just like yours.
I agree, such lucious veggies for the good bank, they must be thrilled! As for the flowers, yes, lovely lovely. I love those pompom sunflowers, we grow one like it called teddy bear. And as for the weather, yup, I'm afraid to say it feels like autumn here and I hate it!
DROOPY--I think that bluish clematis is the Clematis Mrs. Cholmondeley, I believe. I just planted it this year and I hope that it will survive. The stems are not thin and spindly--they are thick and tough even though they are still green. Still...the first year is always kile-kile, as we say. That it will survive, remains to be seen. As for the sunflower seeds....Liezen veddy carefully, I weel say theez only wans --If you would like some seeds, just say the word. EILEEN--I don't doubt for a moment that you will have equal, or even better sucess in your new greenhouse next year. I'm pretty happy to hear that you have one, for it will make such a difference to what you can do in the garden. Wonderful,I'm missing my tomatoes already,my season is over with,it started early,picked my last tomato last week.Love the sunflowers,I grew teddybears this year,did not do so well as I expected,but I shall grow them again,birds are still feasting off of whats left.cw
What can I say Sjoerd. 'WOW' You've done it again. I love those differant colors of sunflowers. And look at those toms. They're just no stopping them. I'm so happy you and the others are giving to your food bank there-I bet they really appreciate it. I just hope by planting inside our new greenhouse next year that we'll do just as good. once again-way to go.
Oh Petunia...surely you will. Just get the ground inside and the ventilation right, then it'll all be a snap. BTW-- will your new greenhouse have easily removable panes?
