As you walk into our house, you are greeted by a very large wall that extends from a doorway/entrance into the kitchen and then all the way up to the second floor ceiling. (10 1/2 feet wide by 8 1/2 feet tall) Here's a pic: We have no idea what to do here. And I could have easily Photoshop'd the Christmas wreath out of the image but it's important for me to shame myself in front of you fine folks as I just took this photo (yes, September 7th) and it's STILL hanging there as if it's a battle cry of the interior decorating challenged. Have you considered a "Juliet balcony"? Depending on what's on the other side, of course, you could open it up, put french doors there and a small railing. That's what I'm planning to do with our similar situation...when I get around to it.... I saw that a neighbor had that as a builder's option and when I checked our wall with a stud finder, sure enough there's a header already there. Yahoo, job half done! Steve
Thanks for the response. A "Juliet balcony" is not a bad idea. Never would have thought of that. And it might be able to double as a jail/timeout balcony for my 2 kids... j/k. Behind this wall is our master bedroom closet, so I'm thinking the wife would veto that idea. Again, thanks for the ideas! -P
I guess dr would have a huge Navajo rug hanging up there. We have them hanging in the large empty wall areas of our house. A tapestry would be good, too. Or paint a mural of something that you like up there. I would have mountains and a lake. It's really hard to tell someone what to do with a space without seeing what else you like. dooley
Tapestries Great idea with a tapestry up there. Ebay has a lot of them. I'd suggest a scene where you're looking up at it. Like clouds, mountains, trees, a plane, depends on what you like. Or a large photo of Mt. Rainier...
Or a BIG piccie of a motorbike!!!! Seriously though I like the idea of a large rug or tapestry. If you are a bit of an artist then you could paint a landscape framed by a painted 'window' or a piece of modern art - oh the endless possibilities that come to mind!! I do think it's about time to retire that poor wreath though.
a tapestry would be a good idea,or even try to use stencils (there are some that creates a window shape) or even a huge oval metal candle holder will be ok...
