This was actually under my knee when I was pulling weeds in the garden. I couldn't figure out where I was hearing the noise come from until I looked better.
Would this be a locas and/or cicada bug?

They make a very loud noise or maybe a loud hum.

They extremely noisey too. They are called the Dog-day Cicada because they are the harbinger of the 'dog days of summer' and are the loudest on the hottest days.
Summer just isn't the same without their noise.

Cicadas! That sound reminds me of visits to the midwest when I was a kid. We don't have them out west; but we have Mormon crickets. They come out in swarms during the fall.

We have those here too Petunia. Aren't they the oddest looking bugs? Summer wouldn't be the same without their humming :)

I like the sound when it's in the background, but I'm not too fond of it when it's overwhelming. We haven't got them here, I only get to hear them when we're on holiday much further south.

I wonder if we have it in Singapore? I hear them in the parks but I could not figure out if it is the cricket or the bug you have here.
