Hello again everyone, I am looking for something to grow indoors that isn't too big. For lighting, I need something that doesn't require all-day sunlight, because I don't know what kind of light my dorm room will get. Currently all I have is a Lucky bamboo, but it is probably dead, and I would like something a little different from that. I like the look of the Bamboo Palm, but that is probably way too big. I have also been interested in getting some kind of bonsai, but I don't know anything about buying or caring for those either. If anyone has any suggestions, what is your favorite indoor plant, what do you wish you had more of, anything. I have no clue what I'm looking for, but I'm sure I'll know it when I see it.
Kanlanchoes, succulents, peace lillies, pothos, are all good. Go to your local nursery an see what they have indoors an it'll give you an idea.
the only nursery I know of is all outdoors (I think), about 30 minutes away from me, and I don't have a car. That's why I'm trying to figure out what I want before I go, because it's unlikely I'll be able to shop around or take time to decide lol. Thank you for the suggestions, I like the Pothos and the Peace Lillies, but would Pothos be very hard to take with me when I move? I wonder if I could build a sturdy container for it...
I don't think you can beat a peace lily for an inside plant. You can buy them at WalMart and sometimes at the grocery store so you wouldn't have to drive all that way to the nursery. Deanna :-D
Pothos usually are already in a container or hanging basket. You shouldn't have a problem moving it with you.

Low Maintenance (Almost kill-proof) Plant Another plant that grows well in shade is called sansevieria, or mother-in-law's tongue. It grows upward in spikes of spear-like dark green leaves with yellow borders and horizontal stripes. It needs little care and next to no light--probably a cool plant for a busy college student! They are available at Walmart, Home Depot and some grocery stores.
I agree with all the above suggestions. And they all can be found at a large grocery store in the floral department, Wal-Mart, KMart, Lowe's and HD. None of them are expensive. They usually start in pot sizes of 4" up to 10". Good luck, I think you will find something you like.
This is such a big help for me too. I've always been wanting an indoor plant. Are all these easy to maintain?
Are there any other vines or hanging plants that do well with little light? I have issues with having plants in places that afford them a lot of light during the winter. Thanks
