Finally a Viceroy Butterfly in the garden.....

    Wisconsin...zone 5
    I was so surprised to see them here...I had given up hope of seeing them..the hydrangea tree that they loved last year is close to the end of blooming. It is late this year and I had the first siting of one on the butterfly website that counts Wisconsin butterflys. You can tell it is a Viceroy , not a Monarch by the line through the hind wings..

    Lovely photos. We have had hardly any butterflies in our garden this year. Have you found there to be a decline in numbers in the US over recent years?

    Beautiful fotos...You know the Monarch gets all the publicity, but I like the Viceroy better.
    You have some very nice shots of that pretty butterfly.
