My name is Kevin Williams and I am an Australian living in Michigan. Prior to coming to the USA I resided on Norfolk Island in the South Pacific. Big change here from living on a beautiful Island 1,000 miles off the east coast of Australia. However it is fun to have four seasons of weather. Normally on Norfolk Island the temperature never drops below 55F or get higher than 85F all year round.

Hi Kevin, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. I can imagine how much of a difference you are experiencing in the weather from the South Pacific to Michigan. Personally I would love to experience that kind of weather change too but I can't get my family to go for a move like that.

What kind of gardening are you interested in?

    Thanks for the welcome.
I've been involved with Kentia Palms for 20 years and they are my favorite plant. I always have a couple in my home for decorative design.
I had Kentia Palms growing on my property on Norfolk Island. The Island is sub tropical and is home to the beautiful Norfolk Island Pine. Huge pine trees cover the Island. The majority of the population on the Island ( about 2,000 ) are descendants of the Bounty Mutineers. Lots of history there and the Island has one of the finest collections of colonial buildings that were built by convict labor in the 1800's.

Welcome to the best Stew on the net, from coastal mid-Norway! :stew2: I've only seen your island on photos and in films, it looks like a lovely place. How did you end up in Michigan by the way?

It's great to have you here Kevin. A BIG welcome from West Lothian in Scotland. I'd love to see any photographs you may have of your palms as well as any from Australia as both sound fascinating. :-D

Thanks once again everyone. It was great to hear from so many people worldwide.
I remember Scotland as I met my American wife there. That is the reason I ended up in Michigan!
I would love to share some pictures of Norfolk Island with you all but need some help about posting pictures to this site, or do I have to do it through my newly started blog? I'm not really that "techo"!!!
