    Hi

I just bought some second hand tatami mats and they don't quite fit in the space I was hoping to put them in. I have enough mats to cut one of them up but I don't really know how they are constructed. I don't want to start chopping away at them only for the mat to disintegrate.

So, I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about tatami mats and whether it is a good idea to trim them and if so what the best way to do it might be?

    Much appreciated

well, if anyone else is curious, i have discovered that it is pretty easy to cut/trim tatami mats. i just used transparent duct tape over the area to be cut and then got stuck in with a stanley knife. tidied up with some more tape and that was it. very easy.

Having never come across tatami mats before awer I was unable to offer any advise to you. However, I'm glad you found a solution and posted it here as it will help other members that may have the same problem. :-D

Will the tape adhere nicely to the mat?
    Thanks!
