    howdy!

i have been reading some topics in this forum, and decided to join. i live on a great piece of valley farmland with rich soil (though only 1 acre), and with the economy tanking lately, i am seriously contemplating trying to grow year around sustainable food. i am an engineer by trade, but enjoy gardening on a smaller scale, and hope to learn more about composting and organic gardening. i am interested small scale, intensive gardening techniques with maximum yields per unit of land.

on the lighter side, i found this beautiful sweet onion hiding in the corner of my pantry a while back, stuck between the box of onions and spuds. i found her long, slender, supple, green limbs to be very enticing, and i named her BETTY! Betty the onion, that is.... (or formerly called "the onion named Betty")

    Here's a Betty Pic:

    she's quite a looker, eh? :-D

i placed her gently in a glass, and noticed that she is a good listener! i can complain about all of life's little petty things, and she just sits there and listens!

Yep... Betty is my kind of onion! :D

    warning: don't touch my betty!

    thanks petunia.

i was hoping my betty (betty the onion... formerly known as "the onion named betty"), would be accepted here. ;)

betty even has a special chair now....

i dunno.... i think the chair adds a certain sophistication to her character.

but then again... i'm a sucker for sweet onions!

i would appreciate any advice on how to impress an onion.

I certainly wouldn't try getting her 'juiced', onions have no qualms about making humans cry.

Welcome to GardenStew from north Texas by the way.

Welcome to Garden Stew. Betty is lovely, I don't how to make yourself more "apeeling" to an onion. I have been known to try to seduce a garlic bulb to two myself.

    thanks everybody.

although i am not so sure betty (betty the onion, that is) likes me that much.

the other day I walk into the kitchen....

and betty is waxing philosophical with an egg, and an apple, while her long supple limbs were seductively close to a pork chop named patrick!

and i'm like... "betty, what are you doing?"

    and she's like... "chill babe"

    and i'm like... "CHILL?!?!"

    and she's like... "whatever!"

    sigh.

sweet onions can have such an attitude, you know? :!:
