I finally managed to find time to make them yesterday evening. A big heap of material. Can this ever look good, I wonder? Both Snuske and Lord Paint thought that a load of branches inside was a very silly thing to have! Lord actually tried to pull a branch back outside. The decoration stash: This is our wreath, all done and ready to go outside: And this is the neighbours' wreath. I snuck over and put it on their door just before midnight yesterday, and haven't spoken to them today. Well, I only just got home! So I don't know if they like it:
Very nice Droopy!! and also very thoughtful of you to that for your neighbors. I'm sure they are thrilled to have a beautiful wreath as that is. Can i ask, what did you use under the greenery to anchor it on? I need to make a few, and i didn't cut any birch branches this year to make the circles out of. And we burn the wreaths at the end of every Jul so i don't have any left.
Thanks for your kind words, all. The neighbours' wreath started as a small prank about 10 years ago, and we've just continued the tradition. They know they'll get one, but never know when. It's a straw base, Biita, the ones you can buy in hobby shops or florist's shops. I remove the decorations and cut off the greenery when we're done with Christmas, and save the straw rings from year to year.
You did a great job of making two beautiful wreaths.I would love to find either one of those on my door.
WEll, I don't know if your neighbours like their wreath....but I sure do. I like your's too--that little x-mas penguin looks cute. You have got the touch with wreaths. I remember last year's too. Well done.
Thanks both. The penguin has been part of our Christmas for 12 years now. I think he looks very friendly and welcoming inside that wreath.
Thank you Penny and Frank. I sometimes wonder what our neighbour would do if I for some reason was unable to make wreaths for us. Maybe they'd make something for me?
Oh Droopy, that is really lovely - I have always wanted to make a living wreath but always run out of time, and you know, I just don't think I am as artistic and clever as you! I will cut some holly from all the gardens I will be working in this coming week and poke some in my artifical wreath and then I place some along my mantel. I also have a garden where mistletoe grows in the apple trees so I will be bringing that home, so form an orderly queue for your Christmas kisses.
Thank you so much EJ. The artificial ones are so pretty, and if pressed for time I'd have one too. I envy you your mistletoe, we can't grow them up here. *standing in line*
