Hi all has any one seen the blue hosta they have know? they are beautiful, They are a bright blue and deep shade of green, Im going to try them this year. They are suppose to grow pretty fast,I cant wait to get them.And Im also going to try bleeding heart , does any one know are they a shady plant I hope , thats whatI need. So far thats what im going to try this year, I probably try others when I get my seed book.I really need shade plants If anyone has ideas. Thank You Margie
The Bleeding Hearts (Dicentra) and Hostas are good for shady areas. Arisema, Tricyrtis, Corydalis, Liriope, Polygonatum, Pulmonaria, Trillium, Trachelospermum jasminoides and Convallaria to name a few. That last one can be invasive--that is to say, it can spread. Good luck with your shady garden.
Impatiens, Persian Shield, many of the Coleus even tho there are some that will take sunnier locations. I would love to have Hostas but they require more moisture than I can steadily supply in our long, hot, dry summers.
Like toni ,its to dry here for hosta's.I don't have much shades at my yard.I love Persian Shield.the color is wonderful.
A new shade garden, how wonderful. We've got plenty of blue hostas in our garden. Some are very big, and some are tiny, and a lot are somewhere in between. If you check the PlantStew you will find lots of hostas. Please remember to post photos as you go.
I'll be expanding my shade garden this year too. I'll be adding more Hosta's but in that garden I already have Astilbe, Ferns, Solomons Seal, Bleeding Hearts, Columbine, and I add some Impatiens for color.
i mpatients Hi gardengreen, I havent tried the double impatients, I thought they had to be in a sunny area, They are beautiful though.I had some one time they looked like little red roses, I loved them. If I can grow them in my shade garden they sure will be in there.You think they will grow good?My area is backed up to the woods and under a big tree, so thats what worried me.I think it will be nice over there, its a little bare with just dirt under it no grass.Its so sad looking. I did have some double Impatiens and they were lovely! They are at least double the price of regular ones here so I tried to over winter some so I could start cuttings. They didn't last the winter
