HI group, I foster dogs, so I have a lot of traffic on my back yard grass. I hate how bare it is. Is there any grass that can withstand all that traffic and still grow well?
I've heard that Agway Wear Green Grass is a good one for a lawn that is heavily used. I think Bermuda Grass may also be hard wearing. Have a look on the web and see what it says about them though as I'm not sure how well they would do in your area.
Thanks I will look that up. Do you have any clue as to how to get the grass to grow while still having the dogs in the yard? LOL I know kind of silly, but we have no where else for them to go. Hence the reason we are in this boat in the first place. Can it grow even with them treading on it? Or I could put a fence around it and hope they don't try and get in.
I think you'd have to give it time to establish itself before the dogs were allowed on it. You could always do it in sections if that would be easier for you - not so much fencing to cope with either.
Tall fescue is a tough grass that withstands traffic, and in fact is used in horse paddocks because of it. Kentucky bluegrass can withstand the traffic and will revitalize itself, but requires more maintenance than most homeowners are willing to provide to keep it healthy and vigorous.
Try Plugs of Fast Growing Zoysia Grass Hi, Thanks. This worked for me when I had to fill in Dirt paths near our garden. The trips back and forth to the compost pile. Wheel barrow, wagon, bikes, kids. Get Plugs of Fast growing Zoysia grass. Plug the edges of the path. It will slowly fill in the dirt areas. OR If you want it done quick. Borrow a piece of woven fence to put over a section of the Dead area. Then you can plant anything you wish. The dogs will walk beside the fence. Not on top of it. Alan
any new grass you plant - Anything you decide to use - you will need to keep traffic off while it becomes established. We use low growing grasses like no mowing grasses that withstand traffic ok and grow back over bare spots. Keeping traffic off when the ground is wet helps too since traffic on wet soil compacts the root system - then only weeds grow.
Poa (bluegrass) is high maintainence. Look into a mixture used for sports fields, the stuff used on football and soccer fields. A good garden center can get it for you. Then do it in sections. Ron
