I really thought it was too early to be starting to nest here because it is still cold but yesterday, the last day in February I watched as one sparrow kept trying to get some nesting material through the small hole of the bird house. He kept dropping it because he tried to get the larger end in first......so finally he figured out that it would work if he turned it around..He had dropped it about 4 times...

It was on 6* here this morning and we have a lot of snow yet....

They're so cute! :D I haven't seen any of the small birds with nesting material yet, but the magpies have been at it for a couple of weeks.

Our rooks nest in February but, apart from magpies, no other birds have started to show signs of setting up home. They have all now got their breeding plumage though so I don't think it will be long before we hear youngsters all around us again. Your sparrows are very early but the nest should be nice and cosy inside your birdbox. :stew1:

    Hi, Sherry! A fellow Wisconsinite.

Thanks for posting the pics of your sparrows. They are really cute. In my yard right now, all I'm getting is turkeys.
