Hi everyone. I know that help-me-rearrange-the-furniture posts are oh so frequent here and you are probably tired of it. However I do need your help. Please refer to the to pictures of the current arrangement and an arrangement I've been playing with (added a recliner that I am planning to buy). Some notes - 1.I have a big French window almost directly opposite the fireplace. 2.The floors are hardwood(dark) 3. Living room is really the most important room because I do everything there - we entertain there, eat sometimes, just relax. 4.I thought of dividing the room into a conversation area and a fireplace area (thus trying to add a recliner in second pic but not sure what to add in the corner) 5. You can see that one wall is longer then the other - the walls are the actual room and there is additional 2ft long type of hallway that leads towards the dining room. My concern is if I put the loveseatlike in the secon picture-the room will seem smaller (the room is 15ft by 13ft. Thanks everyone for even attempting to read this !! (I know its long!) ideas ( photo / image / picture from russian_GRL's Garden ) Current furniture arrangement ( photo / image / picture from russian_GRL's Garden )
First of all I would move the rug to be centered in front of the fireplace. The fireplace is the focal point of the living room. As I understand it, you are blocking the window with the sofa. Move the sofa to the wall that has the love seat in the first picture. Center the sofa and have it out from the wall if room allows and place the coffee table partially or all the way on the rug to anchor the room. Maybe use only one end table with the sofa and one with the love seat. Maybe put the love seat on an angle close to where it is in the second picture. With the love seat on the angle you can see the TV and enjoy the fire place both. A 13 x 15 room isn't large enough to divide. That's just MHO !
Tahnk you for your reply. I liek your idea of moving the area rug in front of the fire place. I can't put however the big sofa where the loveseat is because there is not enough room (the space is 5-6inch shorter then the sofa.) I hate blocking the window but I didn't see any other arrangement to work with the room where I can put the big sofa. Is there a way to have 2 focal points i.de. window and fireplace so one can enjoy both? Or my best bet is to keep the big sofa against the window wall and just pull it more towards the end of that wall unblocking the window partially?
Can you angle the sofa out a bit at the corner end to make it fit? Other than that I don't know what to say.
I would as you say, keep the big sofa against the window wall and just try to pull it out a bit towards the end of that wall.
