After a long dreary cold winter what is the first thing you look forward to seeing as the start of spring, Is it an animal, a bird, a plant, or something else? for me it has to be snowdrops in the wood and in the park ( I don't have any yet in my garden) They are early but they always remind me spring is just around the corner.

I usually see the branches with magpies flying about before I see any flowers, so that's my "spring is nearing"-sign.

When I've squashed the first pests, I'm ready to declare that spring has sprung. :D

Snowdrops, crocus and daffodils, frogs croaking in the pond and the dawn chorus all spell out spring for me. :stew1:

usually when the ground thaws enough for the frogs to come out and sing. 2. buds coming out from the trees. 3. my snow crocuses popping out of the ground. But we just seen some pict from last year and we still had snow in April, so we'll have another month to go yet before seeing any signs of spring here.

Daffadils are my favorite marker for spring. It's spring when the local daffadils are for sale cheap at the supermarket ($1.99 a dozen this week ). It is REALLY spring when my own daffadils bloom!

A high of 79 deg F one day and a high of 26deg F the next. That's spring in Ohio!

Dawn chorus for me. The birds have been singing their hearts out in our garden these last couple of weeks and it is a joy.

When the carolina jasmine starts to bloom, it smells so wonderful and blooms really early in Louisiana.

Since spring weather can start here in January like it did this year, my Carolina Jessamine has been blooming since early February and we have birdsong year round there really is no special thing that happens to herald the coming of spring.
The one possible exception being that I started getting depressed about how soon the oppressive heat of summer will be here.

Oh, I forgot the definite spring sign: When the farmers spread muck on the fields, that's when I'm absolutely certain that spring has arrived. :D
