I live in Zone 5 (so its cold still)and I would like to know about starting Glad/Dahlias indoors. Has anyone done this and have any tips to pass along. I thought about starting them in little 3 inch peat pots what do you think..then plant them after frost is done for spring. I know the dahlias will need bigger pots so I thought I might just get a couple window boxes to use for those.. Any help would be great.
I live in zone 4 and don't start them inside. In late May the ground has warmed up enough for them to be planted outdoors and they grow very fast and bloom in late July through September.
Yes I plant both...they both also have to be dug up in the fall, dried and stored somewhere cool but not below 40 degrees. I store mine is a screen box in the basement.
I pot up my Dahlia tubers indoors this time of year. I usually plant my Gladiolus directly in the ground after the last frost which is generally around May 24th here. (zone 5)
