Hi. I'm Ashley and I'm a plant novice. My first plant was a sanservia my dad gave me. My second was an aloe from my boyfriend's mom. Over the past year I collected a lot of houseplants, mostly succulents and cacti, but I definitely don't know much about most of them, or even some of their names. One of my favorite houseplants is my schefflera. Last year I collected maple saplings from the yard and I planted some helicopters. I now have about 30 young silver maples. I'm also trying to grow some other trees from seeds I collected last fall. I've also seen some young sugar maple saplings coming from the ground that I want to dig up before they are mowed. We are growing pumpkins again this year, and I got a few packs of flower seeds that I hope will be successful. I'm really looking forward to the foxgloves. I hope to learn more about the plants I have as well as share anything that might be helpful to others. I'm glad there is a community like this where people can talk about plants with others who won't be bored.
Welcome to you from the chilly coast of mid-Norway! Nobody's getting glazed-over eyes from plant talk here, I assure you. Hop in and make yourself at home.
Hi Ashley, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. Bored from talking about plants....not a chance. What on earth are you going to do with all the Silver Maples? But then I am that way about saving the Pecan and Oak tree saplings that come up in my yard. It's kind of like trying to give zucchini away to your neighbors, after awhile they hide when they see you coming with something in your hand. Don't forget to take photos of your new garden and plants, we love to see photos.
Hi Ashley. You're going to have so much fun here talking about plants. Don't worry we've never been bored yet chatting about anything garden related. :-D So pull up a chair and start getting just as addicted to The Stew as we all are.
Welcome Ashley, Nice name also..Jump right in an ask questions. we have lots of answers here. bali
Hi Ashley. Welcome from Maryland. I really like having a place to ask questions and just hang out with people who "get" the garden thing too. This is a nice spot. I hope you find homes for all of your trees!
Thanks, everyone! You are all so nice. As far as my maples, I don't know what to do with them. I want to make some of them with the gnarliest trunks bonsais, and maybe plant a few in the corner of our yard where there's nothing going on. I'd love to give some away, donate them to tree groups if they take private donations. I will definitely post pictures of our gardening adventures. I can't wait to explore the forums more and see what everyone else has going on around the country and world.
hi Ashley, ive never known anyone to grow trees before so thats quite interesting.. welcome to the forum!
