I think I found it, it's Alpinia zerumbet Shell Flower or Shell Ginger, an evergreen perennial. Read about it on Wikipedia.
Thank you, thank you. *bowing in all directions* I had this thought it might not be a palm but a big, evergreen perennial. Then I checked my trusted "The Royal Horticultural Society Gardeners' Encyclopedia Plants & Flowers from 1994, and there it was.

yup it is a ginger. saw it everywhere in taiwan. i loved the blooms and brought a root with me... but after a while, it just died... weather in romania much too different than what it needs... cool bush. not sure how u can trim it... unless u cut it all down to the ground and let it come back...
