Hi everyone! I am Shanette from Mississippi. I joined the sight mostly because today, my husband and I saw the most beautiful moth!!!!!! It was yellow at the head and had pink wings. I have never seen a pink moth. I love nature and the outdoors and I am totally taken with animals. Take a look at the pic and if any of you recognize and know the name of the moth, please let me know. I have seen several sites with different names. It would be nice to do a little more research and find out about it. You all should know that I love gardening but I am no good at it LOL! Grandma is the green thumb in the family! God Bless!
Wow! I am no good at id-ing moths but I had to comment on how beautiful that one is. Pink velvet with a yellow fur coat! Whew. Also wanted to say Hello to you and welcome and hope you will want to take up gardening or just stew around here. Welcome!
What a fuzzy pink thing that moth is... :-o I've never seen anything like it. Thanks for sharing, and I'm sure one of the experts will be able to help you out. Welcome to the Stew. :-D
Welcome to the forums from the coast of Norway. Your moth is a Rosy maple moth, Dryocampa rubicunda, according to Wikipedia.
Thnks! Thank you for the wikipedia ref! That's him alright. He really was neat. I yelled for my husband hich scared him to death
Hello Shanette and welcome to GardenStew. :-D So glad Droopy managed to ID your moth for you. That's the great thing about these forums - there's always someone that can help no matter if it's a bird, plant, animal or insect that you need to know the name of.
Hi Yall! I talked to our landlord yesterday. Little background...we live on a 250 acre Christian Retreat. It was built into apartments for people who come to Mississippi to get medical treatment, some kind of new thing they do no where else. Anyway, it is a huge farm. Our landlord could not recall any sugar maple trees around the place (which is what wiki says these mohs love most). My husband said, "Maybe he is just passing through". Anyway, as a side note, we saw a beautiful bobcat yesteday and there is a momma Sandpiper who laid four eggs in the driveway. She, or another Sandpiper sits on them night and day. Even when the big trucks and machines come by, she wont move but MAN does she ever give eh' he**!!!
