Hello, today I rescued a butterfly/moth? It was on the floor out side my local Sainsburys so to avoid it being stomped I moved it. I would like you lovely people to help me if you can. I have no idea what is was so if you can identify it for me I would really apreciate it.

Its body was bright red and fairly fury, its underside of wings were an orangy yellow colour and its topside was black with small off-white-ish spot/patches.

It was beautiful and I would like to look into its species further if you can help me.

    Thank you very much. :stew2:

Please let us know if you find it there and which one it is. It does sound very pretty, the colors and designs on butterflies and moths is amazing sometimes.

It sounds like some kind of Tiger Moth to me Blossom - maybe a Garden Tiger or even the rarer Jersey Tiger.

There are some very attractive moths around and I think the Tigers are among the most beautiful. :-D I'm so glad you had the presence of mine to help it and stop it being squished. :D Well done!!

Great! The only moths I've ever seen were from unattractive white over unattractive brown to unattractive grey.

maybe you have seen a beautiful moth and just assumed it was a butterfly, I thought this was more likely to be a butterfly to be honest. :stew1:
