Here is a picture of my tomato. When investigated, there were no bugs found. They start out as small round holes and then enlarge to this. Does anyone have any ideas? Tomato attack ( photo / image / picture from gardengater's Garden )
I can't see any pic either. BTW GG--are there two posts about this subject? It seems like I wrote an response to something like this a few days ago. I'm not entirely sure though. Anyway, I am still quite curious to see some fotos.
I am thinking that it is the work of the larva of the Heliothis zea moth. It is called the "tomato fruit worm" in english. The worm may be on the stalk or leaves. If you can't find it perhaps it is in the pupae stage or has been eaten ...or moved on.Fingers crossed for you.
So far, I have one single tomato on one of 8 plants with a hole like that -- the largest one. I haven't found a worm.... but you know what? I put cornmeal around the base of the tom plant after I saw the hole. Maybe the worm ate the corn meal and puffed up and died -- I read where that is what happens to cut worms and such when they are doused with cornmeal. Just a thought.

Yep, that's the fruit worm. Dang critter can make you pretty upset when you see a beautiful mater and pick it to find out there is a hole in it. But there is still good news, you can still save the seeds from those.
