I'm sorry to post photos of a dead bird, but this guy looks like a beautiful bird, and I can't identify him(or Her). I thought that before disposing of the body, I should at least know what I'm disposing of. I found him or her, out there when I went out to grill some ribs for dinner. Your mystery bird looks like a Belted Kingfisher Tom although I'm not up to speed with all the different species of these lovely birds. Mimi certainly looks wonderful now and I hope she continues to make progress. :-D

My first thought was Blue Jay, but he was not quite right. Kingfisher seems right, the large beak and the coloring. I haven't seen one here about, but he fits the description in the bird book. Trying to find a bird in the bird book is like using a dictionary to find the spelling of a particular word. If you can't spell it you can't find it. So sad. That sure does look like a kingfisher to me. We get quite a few of them around our lake here. I see them often perched on the power lines nearby.
