Hi, A friend has a sick plant, but doesn't know what it is. She would like to find out so she can seek a cure for her friend She has had this plant for several years. She discovered maggot sized worms on it. She desoiled it, washed it and replaced it in new soil. However it has lost most of its leaves. Does anyone know what kind of plant it is and whether it is terminal? Thanks in advance, Jeff moderator's note: moved topic to more appropriate forum plant ( photo / image / picture from jd66921's Garden )
It looks like a Peace Lily to me. They like a lot of water and indirect sun and droop dramatically when they dry out. I can't tell from photo if the plant was further damaged from whatever the worms were... but it may perk back up with watering. If it doesn't, I have had luck with cutting off the damaged leaves and letting it grow back up from the center.
Jeff if the roots looked healthy after taking all the old soil away and replanting it then I would give a feed and a good watering. Peace lilies are usually very easy to care for so I'll keep my fingers crossed that your friends one makes a complete recovery.
Thank you all for the replies!! My friend went offline after telling me about it, so I'll have to pass on your advice when she reappears and see what happens. She doesn't have much of a green thumb, nor do I, but this plant has sentimental value to her. Oh, she said it has never bloomed, is that unusual?
Peace Lilies don't need much care. Just water them and indirect light. The blooms are a white flower. It may take a while for it to get over the worms, repotting, etc. But it should bloom at some point.
I'm thinkin' peace lily too I have one that keeps acting up, he's about to go out with the trash! I don't have time for ill-mannered plants :-o
I think they must have "expiration dates." It just seems like sometimes they give up, even if nothing at all has changed in the way I care for them. I have had 2 do that and they are generally so easy.
