She comes with mother but is now feeding itself. Caught this shot with them both here. Mother is a bit bedraggled. Pileated woodpeckers. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
Once mum has moulted I'm sure she'll be back to her usual attractive self. After bringing up three kids myself I can understand why she looks the way she does at the moment!! You have such a way with a camera Kildale and, I have to admit that, I'm rather envious of the wonderful shots you get.
What remarkable birds. Are they on an endangered list there in Canada? I do not recall seeing many pictures of them on here in the past years.
Thank you for the messages, pleased that you enjoyed the pileated. I don't think they are in trouble but they are a forest bird I guess and stick to the wood. I must admit I have only seen a couple outside of this area. The attached image is of the male, taken on a tree in the front garden. Male Pileated Woodpecker. If it wasn't for the red the male would blend into the colours of the tree trunk and would be extreemly hard to spot.
Your pictures are awesome as always. So nice to see in detail what I've only seen in quick flight. They tend to be so shy of people from my experiences. Thanks as always for sharing :-D
