I found this little thing growing amongst my azaleas. It's a very thin plant, with variegated salvia-like leaves, and thick stalks emerging from the base of the leaves that hold little pinkish/violet flowers on the end. After the flowers have bloomed, they drop leaving the pea-like pods behind, to split and release small fluffy seeds to be dispersed by the wind. I am not sure that I have seen it before, and its peculiar shape and delicate structure have me intrigued. pretty mystery plant... hope it's not a weed! Possibly Vinca minor (lesser periwinkle) http://www.virtualplanttags.com/vpt.asp ... 90&cc=GIYP http://www.invasive.org/species/subject.cfm?sub=3081
I think it is a weed quite common here in Essex....but I have no idea of the name. I get it all over my allotment. Hopefully someone will come up with the answer for you soon.
hi tmholding, thanks for your reply. No it isn't lesser periwinkle, however they do look very similar. This plants leaves are variegated and have sharp "teeth" on the edge. On a separate note, I absolutely adore your garden!
