Ok so I brought this plant around 4 months ago, there was no name and all it said on it was "Common House Plant". It has long thin stems which have tiny little barbs on it suggesting it's a creeper. It does not like direct sunlight and it needs little water to survive. Its leaves are long and thin and the stems can be very brittle. That's all I really know about it. Thanks. Any idea? It looks like a cyperus. Which one I'm not sure. Cyperus alternifolius is very similar to it. Some of the common names are: Umbrella Plant, Umbrella Papyrus, Umbrella Palm.
It could be a ficus alii. But I think alii tends to have thicker trunks. It could be a ficus. On a second look though, I'm pretty sure it's a cyperus, just a very young one by the looks of the pic. Looks lovely so far. :-D
No it isn't ficus. I have that plant and so I don't know it name. But my plant turned its leaves yellow and I don't know why. I searched internet to find some thing about it but I found no thing. Is anyone known about this plant?
No plant appreciates sitting in a saucer of water. You may want to put it in the sink to drip out, then back on the saucer. It looks like hard water deposits may be etching the saucer too. Sorry I can't help with the ID, never seen that before.
I know this seems way strange to suggest, but I keep thinking a fern of some sort. Can you check the back side of the leaves and look for spore casings? That would be a clear indication if there are any there. It really doesn't shout to me of cyperus for some reason, I guess.
MMmmmmm...looking closely it looks like it is growing from a rhizome, maybe some sort of hares foot or fan fern
Can you take a picture of the exposed roots on the top (just pull back some of the moss and then replace it) and the back of the leaves? Mart may well be right, but I keep thinking it is in the fern family.
