Thinking of changing my email provider and need some suggestions as to a good one to change to. I am using Outlook Express6 and for some reason, I am no longer able to open any links. Or if you know what the problem might be and a quick fix for it, I would be interested in that as well. moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
My niece seems to have a great one .Its Earthlink and she loves it and hates AOL. I do too.AOL is hard to fet rid of after you use it.If I ever change from MSN it will be to Earthlink. My daughter pays for mine.
Earthlink is the internet provider here. I use yahoo for e-mail. I never have a problem with it. I like Earthlink better than any of the other internet dialup providers. I do miss the broadband we had in Arizona but this area is too rural for it unless you get the satellite broadband and it's expensive for us.
You have to remember, Outlook isn't an e-mail provider, it's an e-mail client. Providers are services like AOL, Earthlink, NetZero, AT&T, Verizon, and other local companies. These providers are your internet service (that also has e-mail service and comes with one or more e-mail addresses) and an e-mail client is the program you run on your computer to read your mail. Common e-mail clients are Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, and others. Getting a new provider will only change how you connect to the internet. Getting a new client will change how you read your mail. We use Thunderbird http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/ it is virtually virus proof. I have one email account thru my internet provider but got tired of all the spam they were letting thru and now that email is routed thru a gmail account. I also have two other gmail accounts I use for the rEcycle list I own and for GardenStew mail. Between Thunderbird and gmail I don't have to worry about viruses or spam. I have had maybe two pieces of spam come thru on gmail this year. Sometimes a virus will prevent the opening of links, Randy suggests that you could remove all the anti-virus programs on your computer and install Avast instead. Norton and McAfee are in pretty sad shape these days so Avast handles problems much better. It's free http://www.anti-virus-2009.net/avast/
Yep, I would suggest Thunderbird as well. It's very good, and you can add nice widgets to it; weather information etc.
I have been using "incredimail" since it started, Love it!! a free download, I use the basic not the premium, and it's fantastic, especially for creative people... link: http://WWW.incredimail.Com
I use Gmail and it's all I'll ever need. Highly recommended (especially after years of the not so recommended Yahoo Mail).
We used to use outlook Express to open our mail from our internet provider charter communications...I hated it. So I have my charter email address and gmail. i love using gmail. It is easy and you can also chat with contacts that have gmail as well.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I called my ISP and they told me Outlook Express is a product of Dell. Only thing, if your product isn't under warranty, you can't get information from them, unless you pay for it. And Toni, when I said provider, I knew that wasn't right, but I was having a 'senior moment' and couldn't think of what I was wanting to say!! Client...thanks!
I found a fix for my problem. Googled 'OUtlook Express problems', and followed a few easy steps. Was afraid I was really going to screw things up, but checked a couple of emails with links and they opened. I am so happy!! I may try Gmail, it sounds really neat, but was just pleased with myself that I resolved this issue. I am using Kapersky for virus protection. A friend loaded it for me. I think I am in good shape as far as virus protection goes. Thanks for all you help and suggestions. I really appreciate it.
I would highly suggest using Gmail, as its lighting fast and does a decent job with spam filtering. Also with Gmail, you can use their "pop server" and get mail forwarded from other addresses. This is highly useful especially if you run a few websites and have emails such as "@yoursite.com".
It's all about Thunderbird, gotta give MOzilla credit where it's due. Both firefox and Thunderbird are amazing!
