Hi. I recently purchased a house and I would like to repaint the living/dining rooms. The dining room is located inside the living room separated by a half wall. My idea is to paint the outside one color and the inside another. Some people suggested a gray and sand color, but to me that is too boring and traditional. This room looks pretty modern and I want to accentuate this with modern bold colors. The room is surrounded by large windows which translates into a lot of natural light. The trim is white, furniture is white, and the floor is a medium cherry color. I have no idea what colors to use for the walls. I want something bold, yet not overpowering. Anybody have some suggestions? I am willing to repaint the trim if necessary, but I can't do too much about the rest. Thank you for the help.
Lots of natural light and a warm-wood floor will look fantastic with a golden shade of paint. Not a cool yellow, but something rich and gold that's not too dark. A warm cream color or dark ivory could also work. You can match it with burgundy or maroon to complement the floors. Similarly, a navy highlight on only some of the walls can add a touch of contemporary style instantly. Good luck!
Well, you can go one of two ways to integrate color into your home. Either you paint the living- and dining room walls a different (bright) color, or you can go for one neutral color and implement color via acessories. Personally I prefer the latter for an open solution, as you can pick a different color for each room, without segregating the two spaces too much. For inside the kitchen, it would really have to decide on the color of the cabinets. If you have darker furniture, such as dark counter tops and dark wood cabinet, I would neutral colors such as a light cream. On the other hand, if you have light color cabinets, you may want to use a dark color wall to feature it. You can also use white, and keep the kitchen light and bright. Since you mention this is a modern home, you could also use the neutral color in the dining room, and inside the living room, brighten it up. Hope this helps
Nothing screams bold than red or yellow in this case. Although the colors aren't really modern, interior design trends suggest that the aforementioned colors complimented the paleness of your furniture. I personally think that bright yellow will fit in nicely with your white furniture. The red should work if you try to put in colored pieces in the room. Tell me what you think about this.
